Our "newest" Estate Piece from the Edwardian Era!
Throughout history there have been some pretty amazing and distinct eras in jewelry and fashion. Each era has its own unique design styles and traits setting it apart from any other period in history. One of the most innovative & luxurious eras in jewelry history was the Edwardian jewelry era which took place from 1901 - 1915.
The Edwardian Era got its name from the English King, Edward the 7th. Edwardian jewelry is the last jewelry period to be defined by a British monarch, so it holds a lot of history compared to some of the other eras in fashion. This was a time when society was at the height of elegance and sophistication. A piece of Edwardian jewelry was the perfect complement to the high class Edwardian woman's ensemble. Women were always "dressed to the nines", so jewelers always made sure their pieces could go along with these elegant outfits.
One of the most recognizable design elements of Edwardian jewelry is the intricate and extensive use of filigree & milgrain work. The filigree work created a lacy, floral inspired look. Milgrain work, which is still used today, gives the edges of a jewelry a delicate beaded or "coin edge" effect. These time intensive and detail oriented designs show the incredible craftsmanship that went into creating each of these pieces. Another fun fact is that the Edwardian Era was actually the first time in history that platinum was regularly used when creating jewelry!
Thank you so much for a wonderful Black Friday and Small Business Saturday Weekend! And the fun doesn’t stop there! Come in and see new jewelry pieces hot off the jeweler’s bench, designed especially for this Holiday season. New baubles are being handcrafted daily!

The Cure for Large Knuckles
Long thought to be a problem merely for the arthritic, large knuckles are also seen today on young athletes and others who have used their hands in rigorous work. Even if some customers might settle for a ring that constantly slip slides on their fingers, such abuse causes uneven wear on crucial prongs, raising the risk that a gem could come loose. At. S. Curtis Fine Jewelry, we have several solutions for this dilemma.
A special hinged shank with a latching system can prevent having to push the ring over the enlarged knuckle, thus preventing the ring from rolling around. When the shank is closed properly, the latching system is a smooth, integral part of the ring that has no raised parts to catch on clothing. The shank is available in 14k, 18k and platinum and can be ordered in a variety of widths. It can be installed on many styles of rings.
Another possible solution would be to have a white gold spring soldered inside the ring. This U-shaped mechanism allows expansion over the knuckle, then fits snug around the finger itself. The white gold spring is practically invisible to the wearer's eye.l
Yet, another possibility is something as easy as soldered two gold balls on the inside of the ring's shank.
Please bring in your unworn rings and let us show you which method would work best for you! As always, all repair work is done on the premises.

Ever wonder why Argyle pink diamonds so rare and expensive?
The majority of all pink diamonds mined come from one source in Australia, the Argyle Mine. Argyle Pink Diamonds are so expensive because of the very limited supply. A pink diamond is formed of only carbon like a white diamond, through millions of years in the kimberlite pipes of volcanoes. We handcrafted this ring using three matching natural, fancy-intense pink diamonds from the Argyle Mine. Isn’t she a beauty?
