We are excited to announce that our founder, Barry "Buzz" McMenimon, has been honored with the prestigious Gale Johnson Legends of the Lock Industry Award! Launched in 2024 in memory of The Locksmith Ledger International's late editor-in-chief, this award recognizes outstanding contributions, job commitment, leadership, and innovations in the locksmith industry.

Buzz's journey began with his father, William McMenimon, who founded The Flying Locksmiths in 1946. Starting from a humble Jeep, Buzz, alongside his three brothers, evolved the business through innovative marketing and a visionary franchising model. We’re proud to begin Pride Month by celebrating our Tech of the Month, Sarah Hadden!

Sarah started as a technician with our Chicago team three years ago, but her continued passion for mentoring has helped her grow into a lead technician and, more recently, into a manager. Her journey as a locksmith started with a book, Locksmithing 101, and took her straight to her own home’s lock which she rekeyed on that very same day.

“I loved it. I wanted to keep learning and learn more about what the security field had to offer. I love that I’m still learning new things and building my knowledge, but my favorite thing has always been training other people. It’s been a dream of mine to take on an apprentice and help build them up and grow” said Sarah.

We’re extremely proud of the journey that Sarah has been on these past three years with our family. Congratulations, Sarah, and thank you for all you do for the local community and the next generation of technicians.

Becoming a security specialist wasn’t just a job for our April Tech of the Month, Angel Febles – It also symbolized turning a new leaf. This month, we’re shining a spotlight on Angel who joined our Tampa Central team 2 years ago.

Angel’s journey as a technician began at 17 years old with a neighbor who recognized potential in him and “guided him in the right direction”. Throughout his life and after over two decades of service with The Marines, Angel always found his way back to locksmithing. As he honed his craft, he discovered a passion for the tactile art of locksmithing, particularly in the realm of skeleton keys, where precision and manual skill reign supreme. Yet, his journey doesn't end with the present. Currently under the guidance of our Tampa Central team, Jeff and Diego, Angel is delving into the intricacies of access control and wiring, broadening his expertise beyond locks and keys.

Congratulations, Angel! We’re thrilled to have you on our team to help secure communities across the Tampa Central region!

Our technicians aren’t always veterans in the industry – Our March 2024 Tech of the Month, Michael Garcia, joined our San Diego team as a greenhorn and has grown exponentially as a security specialist.

Starting from locksmithing basics, Michael quickly delved into the intricate world of access control. Although his entry into the industry was by chance, Michael found himself deeply intrigued by the trade, sparking a desire to become an expert in his field. In less than a year, he’s shown incredible growth in both knowledge and skill and has become an important asset to our team in San Diego.

When faced with unconventional problems, Michael relies on his ability to adapt and explore alternative routes to find solutions.

“You have to keep an open mind when something changes. Always have a backup plan, there’s always a different route, whether that’s Plan A or Plan Z.”

Every challenge is an opportunity to push boundaries and expand his expertise. Michael’s dedication to challenging himself and growing as a security professional has shaped him into the valuable technician he is today. Congratulations, Michael and keep up the great work!
