When Senate President Pro Tem Mike McGuire took over the role in February, he inherited some of the biggest challenges that California has faced in years, including a historic budget deficit and a collapsing home insurance market that has slammed his own district particularly hard. Has it dimmed the Healdsburg Democrat's famously sunny demeanor?
He'll join the Sacramento Press Club on Monday, July 1, at noon to discuss his goals for the Senate, his leadership style and the state of journalism. (Did you know McGuire used to work in radio and TV news?) Plus, he's promised to show off one of his hidden talents. You won't want to miss it!
Tickets for this special event, including lunch, are available to SPC members for $35 and to the general public for $45.

The Sacramento Press Club stands in support of the journalism students and the school newspaper advisor at C.K. McClatchy High School as they are silenced by Sacramento City Unified School District for publishing a controversial quote. Freedom of the press includes the rights of student journalists, as established by the U.S. Supreme Court and enshrined in California law. We condemn the decision to place journalism advisor, Samantha Archuleta, on administrative leave and urge the school district and Principal Andrea Egan to let the students at The Prospector get back to work.
Congratulations to this year’s student scholarship recipients! https://sacpressclub.org/scholarships/winners/
