Both "Barbie The Movie" and Taylor Swift’s "Eras Tour" have each generated approximately $1B in revenue, underscoring a societal craving we can't ignore.

If you’ve seen Barbie, you'll realize how thoughtful and deliberate Barbie is. Jump over to Taylor Swift’s electrifying concert experience, and you'll feel the energy from her fans and the stadium, showcasing unbridled joy and togetherness. Their shared message? Joy and hope. And wow, do their audiences spend!

We can't help but think that the massive successes of both Barbie The Movie and Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour might be because they fill a void in our collective society today. From the pandemic isolation, negative news cycles, and constant posturing on social media- it seems people are simply tired and want something to feel good about. And in unison.

Perhaps girls and women feel seen and celebrated, experiencing a sense of togetherness, joy, and hope? The great part is boys and men are warmly invited to join these experiences of validation, unity, and optimism.

As marketers, our challenge is clear: How do we recapture and convey that same joy and hope to energize and inspire our audiences?

The US Department of Energy has announced this week a significant breakthrough for harnessed power, nuclear fusion. For the first time, the folks at the California lab were able to create clean energy by "fusing" light elements of hydrogen into helium, generating an enormous amount of energy. It's the same process that powers the sun, and it's far more efficient than current nuclear "fission" technology.

What's more, fusion power plants would generate relatively little nuclear waste, and they could run off of hydrogen readily found in seawater.

As marketers, we look at how disruptive technologies impact existing market segments. Though commercially viable clean nuclear fusion energy will probably not be available until 2060's, industries such as fossil fuel, and even solar, should start pivoting where they can.

We're personally excited about the clean energy aspect but also equally frightened about the potential weaponry this technology may result in.

Meta cannot run ads based on personal data, EU privacy watchdog rules- and we’re thinking the other countries will follw suit soon. That means ads like the below, which target a user’s personal data (ie gender), will need to find another way.

This makes it more enticing for advertisers to go to platforms where ads are served based upon content versus user demographics and psychographics.

Here's how to consolidate a few trends into something meaningful for marketers.

1. Did you know 42% of the world is on social media each day, averaging 2.22 hours of daily use?
2. Did you know 82% of businesses intend to use content marketing in 2023? However, they are earmarking it for blog posts, email marketing, newsletters, and pre-produced videos.
3. The most popular content people consume is how-to content, whether in the form of a blog post, a podcast, or a video. Note that video is overwhelmingly preferred by people.

Folks, do not sleep on short-form videos on social media! So here is your brief game plan:

1. Create a how-to video on platforms such as Youtube.
2. Reference that video on your website via a blog post and transcribe the content from the video. Don't forget to use good SEO principles when writing out your post.
3. Give teasers of it on short-form video platforms such as Tik-Tok, Youtube Shorts, and even Pinterest.
4. Rinse and repeat.

For the 2022 holiday season, shoppers’ main concerns will revolve around inflation. In fact, according to a survey from NPR, inflation is overwhelmingly the top concern, with 64% of American consumers saying inflation and increasing costs are a worrying topic.

Inflation isn’t an issue that can be ignored, and during the busiest spending time of the year, rising costs are going to have a significant impact on shoppers’ purchase decisions. Consider the following stats:

* * 35% of US shoppers plan to spend less per person on holiday gifts this year compared to previous years due to inflation.

* * 74% of US shoppers say they are wary of spending too much this holiday season due to economic uncertainty

* * 29% of US shoppers say they will only buy gifts on sale this holiday season

* * 34% of US holiday shoppers believe they’re likely to go into more debt this year than in previous years to purchase holiday gifts

So when you do your holiday promotions, keep in mind adult shoppers are looking for discounts and promotional pricing.

As a bonus tip, anything under 20% you can forget it unless the amount is over $500. The most popular online e-commerce offering this year amongst marketing execs is 25% sitewide sales.

It's a delicate balance of marketing copywriting while remaining compliant with financial and consumer regulations. The website also integrates seamlessly with its CRM system. To date, Blue Water Credit continues generating leads from its site, which is the backbone of its sales function.

PR is like making bank deposits and making account withdrawals. When a crisis hits (withdrawals), make sure your deposits well cover the deficit so you're still in the black.

Hiring a PR firm to handle a PR crisis WHEN it happens is like opening a bank account with a negative balance. Plan first, deposit often into the bank of public trust. Then when you need to withdraw, it is easier to forgive.

You cannot believe how many marketing directors tell us, "It's not in the plan." As if they can't be agile to change with market opportunities. Seize the moment!!!

Let's talk branding. Will Smith's "brand" is a funny family-oriented entertainer. He rarely even use curse words in any of his work, let alone assault a fellow entertainer for a very insensitive joke about his wife's hair. Backstory aside, if this incident is "off-brand" for Will Smith and he wants to retain his brand of affable family guy, he needs to make right with Chris Rock and the Oscars.

However, if Will wants to change his brand as a "protective family man" and a person who is tired of showing the world he's the "nice guy who always gets walked over" (read his memoir)- then this is a pivotal moment for the new brand. What are your thoughts?
