Join our annual Fill-A-Backpack Drive! Now through August, we are accepting filled backpacks and much-needed school supplies to support the needs of children and families across our 10 programs. Will you join us in supporting this important campaign?

At the Sacramento Children’s Home, we know that a bright future begins with a good education. Unfortunately, many of the children and families we serve lack the resources and proper school supplies to start the school year off right. For children in need, something as simple as a new backpack can boost their confidence and self-esteem, and other proper school supplies can set them on a path to success.

It was Carnival Day at the SCH main campus yesterday! The Residential team did an excellent job planning a fun-filled day for the boys. The day began with an egg drop from the second story of the main building, followed by a scavenger hunt and water balloon toss, and then a BBQ lunch! The day was complete with a Sno Cone station and prize booth. What a fun day! Thank you to all the volunteers who participated, from those who cooked the burgers to the ones who served the food and then played with the kids on the water slides. The kids seemed to have a really great time. Thank you, Residential team!🌞🎊

Parents reach out to the Crisis Nursery when they are experiencing a crisis and need help taking care of their children. They may be experiencing homelessness, escaping a domestic violence situation, seeking drug or alcohol treatment, struggling with a medical condition, or experiencing other crises that prevent them from being able to provide the best care for their children.

The only program of its kind in Sacramento County, the Crisis Nursery is voluntary, confidential, and free, giving parents the opportunity to keep their children safe during times of extreme distress without resorting to foster placement or maltreatment. This support prevents early childhood trauma and helps strengthen familial bonds early, better preparing the whole family for a bright future.

The Crisis Nursery is our greatest needs program and continues to rely on the generosity of our community to sustain this vital program. The best way to provide ongoing, dependable support for Sacramento’s most vulnerable children and families is to join the Crisis Nursery Sustainer’s Circle. With a monthly donation of just $10 today, you can ensure another kid has a safe place to stay tomorrow.

Thank you, CHP Cadets, for all your hard work over the weekend! 120 Cadets visited the SCH main campus on Saturday, June 15th, to help with some big outdoor projects. They did a great job completing various tasks, including spreading new bark around our planters, spreading new sawdust around the children's play structure, trimming and cutting overgrown trees, and giving the commissary a much-needed fresh coat of paint. After the long day, they enjoyed playing basketball and soccer with the boys who live on campus and shared pizza and beverages with them. The campus looks great and everyone had a great time!

Congratulations to our young graduates! Last week, our Residential program hosted a delightful graduation ceremony led by Training & Recreation Therapy Manager John Glass. Cyndi Tran, our Residential Cottage Facilitator, began with a warm welcome speech to kick off the ceremony. Among the honorees were a graduate from elementary school, two boys promoted to 8th grade, and one graduate from middle school. Each boy received a $25 gift card for their achievements. In addition, two boys received the Eric Gills Spirit Award, which recognizes outstanding behavior and commitment to their program at SCH. As a bonus, each boy walked away with a $100 gift card!👏The evening concluded with cake and punch. We're very proud of you, graduates! 🎉

We've said it before, and we'll say it again: If you are committed to providing dependable, ongoing support toward ending child abuse and neglect, there is no better way than to become a Sustainer. The Crisis Nursery Sustainer's Circle is a group of nearly 200 individual donors who give monthly to sustain SCH's highest needs program: the Crisis Nursery. There are only four Crisis Nurseries in California, and SCH operates two of them. We must ask for our community’s support to sustain this vital program. This monthly giving program makes it easy to make a sustained impact. When you commit as little as $10 a month, you offer a safe place for an infant or young child to stay during their family's temporary crisis.

Visit www.kidshome.org/crisis-nursery-sustainers-circle/ to learn more about how you can help.

Supporting the parents supports the kids. The Crisis Nursery provides crisis intervention services, parenting support, and case management for the entire family. While the parents work to resolve their crisis, their kids (age 0-5) have a safe place to stay where they can just be kids. The Nursery provides crisis intervention services, parenting support, and case management for the entire family. Whether these children are staying for a few hours or a few weeks, they are welcomed into a loving and homelike environment, where our staff not only provides them safety and comfort, but also with essentials like home-cooked meals, a warm bed, early child learning activities and so much more.

We are currently in the midst of an important campaign to sustain the Crisis Nursery. As our greatest needs program, the Crisis Nursery continues to rely on donations from our generous community. To continue to provide these services 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, we need your help. For as little as $10 a month, you can provide dependable, ongoing funding toward ending child abuse and neglect and giving families a better tomorrow.

Happy Pride Month!!

We're so excited about our new SCH Pride logo that we had to share it with you! As an organization representing a diverse community of staff and clients, it was time to update our logo to be more inclusive of our LGBTQIA+ community. This new logo reflects the most recent Progress Pride Flag. Read on to learn more about it.

The Progress Pride Flag symbolizes the LGBTQIA+ community's ongoing human rights struggle. The flag's design is a constant work in progress, reflecting the evolving nature of inclusivity and representation.

The flag used in our new logo originates from Gilbert Baker's Rainbow Pride Flag, designed in 1978 as a modern alternative to the pink triangle, symbolizing hope over hardship. In 2017, Amber Hikes introduced the Philadelphia Pride Flag, which included black and brown stripes to represent black, brown, people of color, and indigenous peoples in the LGBTQIA+ community. This paved the way for new, more inclusive iterations of the pride flag.

The Progress Pride Flag also features pink, blue, and white stripes, adapted from Monica Helms' 1999 Transgender Pride Flag. At the center of the chevron is an unbroken purple circular hoop over a yellow background, adapted from Morgan Carpenter's 2013 Intersex Pride flag. This updated Progress Pride Flag, created in 2021 by Daniel Quasar, celebrates the diversity of the LGBTQIA+ community and calls for a more inclusive society.

Meet birthday girl, Aadyn! This amazing little girl asked her friends and family to purchase items to donate to Sacramento Children's Home for her 11th birthday instead of gifts for her!! They came through with MANY items from our programs' wish lists including gift cards, diapers, formula, sanitary kits, and more. We're beyond moved and impressed by this generous little girl and her big heart. Thank you to the Harrison family for stopping by to drop off these wonderful items. Our programs will surely put them to good use supporting those who need it the most within our community. Happy Birthday, Aadyn! 🎂❤️

Last Friday, little Jade from Reading to Dogs stopped by to visit the Residential kiddos again! His owner was trying to encourage him to put his front paws on the desk to greet one of the boys. 🐾 A few boys participated by learning commands and cuddling, and one even fell asleep next to another dog! 😴 Oh, yes, and they read a little too - but mostly enjoyed laughs with their furry guests. 🐶😊

When we review our client discharge forms, we often come across quotes like these that remind us why we do what we do. SCH's Crisis Nursery offers much-needed support to Sacramento families, providing over 3,200 safe stays to kids five and younger. When parents receive free emergency childcare and comprehensive case management services, they are empowered to resolve their crises and reunite with their children as swiftly as possible.

With continued decreases in government funding, the Crisis Nursery increasingly relies on donations from a generous community. For as little as $10 a month, you can provide dependable, ongoing funding toward ending child abuse and neglect and give families a better tomorrow. Every dollar goes directly toward giving our community’s most vulnerable children a safe place to stay when they need it most.

By the end of June, we aim to welcome 25 new members to the Sustainer’s Circle to support the essential work of the Crisis Nursery. Become a sustainer today to help keep children safe, build a stronger community, and give families a better tomorrow.

Visit www.kidshome.org/crisis-nursery-sustainers-circle/ to join today and make a difference for Sacramento’s kids.
