There are officially 8 days until election day! In preparation for the upcoming election, The Sacramento Alumnae Chapter collaborated with Sierra College to inform and encourage students to register to vote. Additionally, the Chapter worked to dispel common myths about registering and voting, including myths concerning convicted felons and unhoused citizens.

Thank you Sacramento! With the help of the greater Sacramento community, the Sacramento Alumnae Chapter led the way by collecting and donating 11,771 diapers for the Sacramento Black Child Legacy Campaign. Collectively, the donated more than 62,000 diapers!

The last stop on our HBCU Celebration tour is Tuskegee University. Did you know that Tuskegee University was the first institution to offer a degree in veterinary medicine to African Americans?
Tuskegee University was established in 1881 by Booker T. Washington and played a pivotal role in African-American history, having provided leadership and education to generations. Tuskegee University is famously known for the Tuskegee Airmen - a group of African American pilots who were trained at the university and fought in World War II.
Tuskegee is renowned for its diverse academic programs, including engineering, business, nursing, and health sciences.
Tuskegee University has produced more African American doctors, lawyers, and engineers than any other HBCU in the nation. Notable alumni of Tuskegee university include Dr. Betty Shabazz, Dr. George Washington Carver, and Dr. David Satcher, who is the Former Surgeon General of the United States.
Continuing our HBCU Celebration, the spotlight is on Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio. CSU was founded in 1887 as a part of Wilberforce University. Did you know that Wilberforce University was the first HBCU to be owned and operated by African Americans?
CSU was originally known as the Combined Normal and Industrial Department, but became its own institution in 1947 before achieving university status in 1965 and becoming Central State University. The university was significant in the fight for social justice and civil rights and continuously provided opportunities for underserved communities.
Central State University is known for several of their academic programs, including agricultural sciences, water resources management, education, business administration, and performing arts.
Today is National Voter Registration Day, the largest civic holiday dedicated to ensuring that every American recognizes their ability to elevate their impact through the vote ๐ณ
As one of the most important elections in our lifetime we must make sure our communities are not only registered to vote but are well educated on the issues impacting us most - we have to vote like our lives depend on it because they do!

Did you know that Xavier University of Louisiana (XULA) is the only historically Black and Catholic university in the United States? Xavier University of Louisiana was founded in 1925 by Saint Katharine Drexel and the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament with the mission of creating a more just and humane society by preparing its students to assume roles of leadership and service in a global society.
Xavier University of Louisiana has been instrumental in providing quality education for African Americans, particularly in STEM fields and health professions. They emphasize community service, social justice, and academic excellence, making it a pillar of higher education in the African American community. Xavier University of Louisiana is renowned for its exceptional pharmacy, chemistry, education, biology, and pre-med programs.
Notable Alumni include Dr. Regina Benjamin, former U.S. Surgeon General, Mayor LaToya Cantrell, the first female mayor of New Orleans, and Andrew Young, who was a civil rights leader and former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.

Our HBCU Celebration tour continues with the spotlight on Jackson State University. Jackson State was founded in 1877 as Natchez Seminary by the American Baptist Home Mission with the purpose of educating newly freed African Americans. After moving to Jackson, Mississippi in 1882, it achieved university status in 1974 and became Jackson State University.
JSU has a rich history of activism and leadership and was crucial during the Civil Rights Movement. Since its founding, Jackson State has been a center for cultural development, academic excellence, and community service.
JSU is most known for their business, education, arts, social work, and engineering programs. Additionally, the university offers study abroad programs and has a partnership with NASA to provide research and internship opportunities for students.
North Carolina Central University (NCCU) was founded in 1910 by Dr. James E. Shepard and became the first state-supported liberal arts college for African Americans in the United States in 1923.
Since its inception, NCCU has been a trailblazer in providing higher education opportunities for African Americans, significant place in the history of civil rights and education in the United States.
For over 100 years, the university has been committed to academic excellence, community service, and social justice. NCCU has highly respected programs including their School of Law, business, education, biomedical sciences, and public health programs.
