You may have seen in the news this past week about the tragic killing of Angelica Bravo, and her missing children believed to have been taken by the father. Angelica is the granddaughter of a longstanding temple member in our Buddhist Church of Sacramento community. We are honoring Angelica by fundraising donations for her family. Use bit.ly/4f4LGRt for credit card donations online. Cash and credit card donations will also be collected at our concessions tonight at bon odori and after our Hatsubon/Obon service on Sunday. Join us for our Obon Odori in the Church parking lot and courtyard. Also streamed on Facebook and YouTube. Obon Memorial Tribute video will be played on monitors and live-streamed throughout the Odori.

Odori instructors, ministers, and dancers are to meet in the Main Hondo by 7:30 pm.

Food Concessions (including teriyaki beef sandwiches, Gunther’s Freezes, and various other food) begin at 5:00 pm.

Obon Store - Buddhist Church of Sacramento Happi Coat (new design) and Tenugui (towels for dancing), 125th Anniversary Merchandise, and new/gently used Obon apparel and dance gear will be sold beginning at 5:00 pm.

Onibi Beer will be sold beginning at 5:00 pm until supplies last

Folding chairs can be brought into the parking lot on Friday, July 12th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm

Obon practice is moving indoors today, July 11. You may park under the obon tent. Tonight’s dinner menu includes chicken teriyaki bowls, gyoza, croquette, karaage chicken, spam musubi and nachos! Today is the last day of practice. Hope to see you there!

Odori Practice Schedule
>Tuesday, July 9, 2024 – 7:00-8:00 pm

Food will be sold by our scouting organizations at each Obon practice from 6:00 pm. Come for dinner before practice starts! There will be daily specials at each practice.
The Obon Store will offer new Buddhist Church of Sacramento Happi Coats and Tenugui (towels), 125th Anniversary merchandise, and new/gently used Obon apparel and dance gear from 6:00 pm on practice nights.

Need help dressing for bon odori? Checkout the obon video playlist on our Buddhist Church of Sac Youtube channel for various how-to videos.In person demonstration on how to dress yourself in a yukata will be held on Thursday, July 11 from 5:00 - 6:30 in classrooms 2 and 3. Bring your own yukata, ties, and obi. If you still require help on bon odori eve, dressers will be available to assist you. If yukata is too hot to wear, purchase and wear our new happi coat designed for our 125th anniversary and wear it over shorts and a t shirt!
