Lauren recently won the William Barclay Parsons fellowship at WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff for her research proposal to study how the United States government should respond to driverless cars. In 2012 she was listed among Mass Transit Magazine’s Top 40 under 40. She has a B.S. and Masters of Engineering in Operations Research and Industrial Engineering from Cornell University. Lauren possesses expert knowledge on issues surrounding autonomous vehicles and is a driving force in helping city, state, and regional governments proactively respond to this potentially world-changing technological development.

Andrew Baron’s current work, Humanwire.org, involves a unique method to connect individual donors with individual recipients online. Humanwire.org provides one-to-one support to refugees in need while helping to bridge the culture gap. The “site is the result of [his] frustration with the war in Syria,” and is an idea that will positively impact the lives of fellow humans experiencing severe crisis.

As founder of Rocketboom, Baron created the first large-scale online video program on the internet most known for its leadership role in the democratization of the moving image while defining the online video distribution and business model popular still today. Rocketboom alone and single handedly established the advertising industry for online video and one by one hand held the big Madison Avenue media buyers to bring their brands into the online video space. Rocketboom was the very first show to enter the mainstream Television with its groundbreaking TiVo partnership, was the first YouTube Partner and received the first YouTube grant, and was the first live show on YouTube.

Baron is also the founder of Know Your Meme, the preeminent online resource for the study of memes and viral spread.

He is arguably the world's foremost authority on compassion, his work is funded by the Dalai Lama, and he will be sharing The Link Between Health, Happiness, and Compassion at TEDxSacramento 2016: What's Next.

James R. Doty, M.D. is the founder and director of the Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education at Stanford University of which His Holiness the Dalai Lama is the founding benefactor. He collaborates with scientists from a number of disciplines examining the neural bases for compassion and altruism.

He is also a professor in the Department of Neurosurgery at Stanford University School of Medicine, as well as an inventor, entrepreneur and philanthropist. As a philanthropist, Dr. Doty supports a number of charitable organizations supporting peace initiatives and providing healthcare throughout the world. He also supports a variety of research initiatives and has provided scholarships and endowed chairs at multiple universities including Stanford University and Tulane University School of Medicine, his Alma Mater.

Dr. Doty serves on the Board of a number of non-profit organizations including the Dalai Lama Foundation of which he is chairman and the Board of Governors of Tulane University School of Medicine. He also serves on the Senior Advisory Board of the Council for a Parliament of the World’s Religions and the Board of Trustees of the Charter for Compassion International.

State Senator President pro Tem (ret) Steinberg has worked to bring awareness and solutions for what he calls “the under-attended issue of our time and in our society.” Steinberg’s commitment to improving mental health services over the years has served to provide integrated services to the homeless; increase funding of “whatever-it takes” services for individuals with the most severe mental illnesses via Prop 63 in 2004, known as the California Mental Health Services Act: fund a major statewide expansion of crisis residential and stabilization beds and mobile crisis capacity reducing recidivism by prioritizing mental health assistance to those in crisis; and, now by establishing a first of its kind statewide organization, The Steinberg Institute for Advancing Mental Health Policy, that will support and encourage legislative champions; help solve disputes between mental health stakeholders; evaluate impacts of current investments; and, implement a tangible vision to advance mental health services and support.

Senator Darrell Steinberg serves as the Director of Policy and Advocacy for the Behavioral Health Center of Excellence at UC Davis, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, School of Medicine providing consultation and advice related to its goals and initiatives, and meeting with community, university and state leaders to advocate for mental-health programs.

Darrell and his wife, Julie, have two children – Jordana and Ari. Darrell is a graduate of UCLA and UC Davis Law School. He currently practices law at the Sacramento office of Greenberg Traurig LLP and is the Founder and Board Chair of The Steinberg Institute for Advancing Mental Health Policy.

We're excited to announce that Brogan BamBrogan, Co-Founder and Chief Technical Officer of Hyperloop Technologies, will speak at TEDxSacramento2016: What's Next on February 12, 2016.

Brogan leads the development of a new form of passenger and cargo transportation, called "hyperloop," that reaches near supersonic speeds. Hyperloop Tech. will have a full-scale, full-speed hyperloop prototype operational by the end of 2016.

Prior to Hyperloop, Brogan was, in fact, a rocket scientist. He was an early team member at SpaceX where he served as Sr. Staff Engineer of Propulsion and played a critical role in some of the most difficult technical challenges faced by the company, including: the upper stage engine of the Falcon 1 rocket, early design of the Dragon spacecraft including Draco thrusters, full Dragon Thermal Protection System (TPS), zero gravity prop tank design, thermal imaging, Dragon escape thruster layout, advanced engine conceptual design, and an ultra-low cost thrust chamber design effort. All of this work included hands-on support in every phase of design, analysis, fabrication, vendor & schedule management, development testing, assembly, and integration on the final launch vehicle or spacecraft.
