At 03:50 this morning, we were dispatched to Frost Road for a structure fire. Thomas PD advised us we had a working fire. We then called for a 2nd. alarm to bring in mutual aid for our neighboring fire departments. As our crews arrived, we had fire showing through roof and the fire had already extended throughout the attic. Our crews began an aggressive interior attack until a roof collapse forced us to switch to a defensive attack. We then went to 3rd alarm where more fire fighters were needed. Crews continued their attacks in an attempt to save as much as possible in the bedrooms, which was successful.

We wish to THANK those agencies who assisted us this morning; Thomas PD and DPW, Richland, Tri Twp. James, Tittabawassee and Saginaw Twp Fire Departments, MMR Ambulance, Central Dispatch, and Hemlock Semi Conductor for filling air bottles. This was an all in team effort.

We are sorry to the residents who lost so much but are thankful they escaped unharmed.

It has been brought to our attention there is a scam going around that Spectrum is calling people to make a deal on their account. They are instructing people to buy Target gift cards to make advance 6 month payments. This is a SCAM!!!

If in doubt, NEVER call the phone number they provide! NEVER pay a bill with a gift card!!! Stay alert! The scams are out there to get you!

Bay County has warned us that an elderly couple received an email on their home computer that they were hacked and their bank accounts were compromised. They contacted the phone number that was provided. They were told a "special agent" would show up to collect all the money that was in their accounts. This guy showed up at their house to collect money!

DO NOT EVER CONTACT A PHONE NUMBER THAT IS PROVIDED! CONTACT A PROFESSIONAL FOR YOUR COMPUTER, FAMILY MEMBER OR 9-1-1.

This is very rare for someone to actually show up at your house, but this guy actually showed up! Call 9-1-1 immediately. DO NOT CALL THE PHONE NUMBER PROVIDED!

Be alert and don't give information or allow them into your computer! Help us spread the news. Tell your friends and family how to avoid being scammed.

Today we had our annual friendly competition of softball with James Township Fire Fighters. Although very warm, fun was had all. Thanks to our umpires Drake Parent and Nick Garvie. Missing from the pictures below are our cooks, Brian Leach, Ryan DeLong, and Travis Leach ( thanks for cooking up some good food guys). The games score is irrelevant as the goal was to have a good time and that we did. :)

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Melvindale Police Officer Said and the Melvindale Police Department as they grieve their loss. This morning the police officer was gunned down. This is the 4th officer killed in the line of duty this year

A set of keys were turned into the Thomas Twp Public Safety Office today. A bike rider found them on the Rail Trail off Stroebel Road near the 7 to 7.5 mile marker. Contact Thomas Twp Police Department at 8215 Shields Drive (Our phones are currently not working).

A battery for a portable oxygen machine was found in the Meijer parking lot on Gratiot. We currently have it here at the Thomas Township Public Safety Building.

Due to our municipal office moving this week, on Wednesday, July 17th beginning at noon, our phone lines and email will experience an interruption and/or complete shutdown. Both will be completely down on July 18th and 19th. If you have an emergency during those days, please call 911.

Just a reminder, today July 8th, between the hours of 10am and noon and again from 6pm - 8pm, we will be conducting on-the-spot interviews to fill the role of a first responder (fire and medical) for the Thomas Township Fire Department. These interviews will occur at our Station 2 located at Dice and N. Thomas Roads. Can't make it? No problem, just scan the QR code for our online application that you can submit. Walking your dog is not only good for your dog but also good for you! However, not cleaning up after your dog uses the bathroom is not good for anyone!

We are getting lots of complaints especially in area of N. Thomas Road between Dice and Tittabawassee Roads. Enjoy walking your best friend but be prepared! Take a bag with you and clean it up! That way everyone can enjoy their walk!

Thomas Township Police Officer Smith was honored at the annual M. A. D. D. Law Enforcement Recognition Luncheon today in Mt. Pleasant. Officer Smith is always working hard to keep Thomas Township a safer place to live, work or visit. Thank you Officer Smith for your dedication to this department and to the residents of Thomas Township!

Due to the amount of rain we've received, the burn ban has been lifted. As always, make sure whenever you're burning, burn safely.

Effective June 17, 2024 at 8:00 AM, there will be NO OPEN BURNING allowed in Thomas Township. This will remain in effect until at least Saturday morning and will depend on the weather conditions. Other areas having these same burn restrictions are as follows; JAMES, RICHLAND, TITTABAWASSEE, KOCHVILLE Townships and the fire coverage are for TRI TOWNSHIP Fire District. If you have any questions, please contact your local fire department.

Your fire fighters here in Thomas Township have an association that generously gives back to our community and beyond. Here you see a sign showing they have sponsored a golf hole which supports the 100 Club of Saginaw County. They personally fund this Association so no tax dollars were spent here. The fire fighters are joined by; Saginaw County Fire Chiefs Association, Maple Grove Fire, Birch Run Fire, and Frankenmuth Fire, all who are showing that same support for such an awesome organization.

There has been a few reported sightings of our bear friend. In the area of N. Thomas and Frost Road a "Mama bear and 2 cubs" are hanging out. We have contacted the DNR and they have asked that everyone makes sure there is no garbage that the bears can get into, no bird feeders be left out and watch carefully over all of your small animals. Do not approach the bears.

ROAD CLOSURE - Frost road is closed at Hunters Ridge ( between. N. River and Kennely). For an AT&T line across the roadway. We'll have the road closed until AT&T removes the line.

There has been a bear sighting in the area of Gratiot Rd and Georgian Terrace! Please stay alert.
