We celebrated Missy’s birthday this week! Not everyone wants balloons and streamers and a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY sign, but if you know Missy, you know she does! She greets patients at the door with a smile and always advocates for making people happy.

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. This is an opportunity to extend support, to seek help, to educate, to advocate. To take a step toward mental wellness.

When you pull into Dixie Commons, this is the sign on the building you are looking for! Inside you will find Psychiatric Nurse Practioners and therapists and medical assistants and staff who are ready to take care of your mental health needs.

One of the best things about being a provider at Integrated Psych is working with the other providers. Our nurse practitioners talk to each other about treatment plans, ask for advice, mentor and share knowledge.

When you pass the magazine section at any store these days you are sure to see headlines about inflammation. Arthritis. Asthma. Cancer. Diabetes. Inflammation attacks the body.

There is also a link between inflammatory changes in the brain and depression.

We are so happy with the results our patients are seeing with TMS treatment. One patient recently said “I am so even-keeled! My depression is at a 3 after being at a 10.”

This morning there was a hot air balloon flying over our St. George clinic. The sun was also shining bright and to really see the hot air balloon, I had to move one inch to the right to use the building to block the sun. When I did that, I could enjoy the hot air balloon without any problems. But one inch to the left, one TINY inch, and the sun was too strong and made the hot air balloon virtually impossible to see.

One small step to the side, one small change, made the experience so much clearer. Sometimes, isn’t that the way it is with our mental health too?

Sometimes it is just one adjustment to make life a little easier. One habit. One visit. One prescription change may make a world of difference.

It should also be said, sometimes it takes a lot more than a small change for any difference but that is ok too. Each small step adds up to improvement.

It is February! There have been some changes with televisits and ketamine, so please check with your provider for details.

This is what it looks like in front of our office in St. George this morning but five minutes north on Dixie Drive it is sunny.

The fog is so thick in parts of town you can barely see the car ahead of you. But just a couple minutes away it is clear.

Isn’t that how life is sometimes?! Clarity and sunshine could be just around the corner. Maybe it will just take time. Maybe it will take medication. Maybe it will take a combination of medication and therapy and time.
