The reel we posted the other day shed a light on how many birthing people do not know the choices and rights they have during their birth experience.💔

Sadly, many hospitals in the country haven’t caught up to the evidence related to best practices in maternal and infant health and well-being, so many birthers are forced to advocate for themselves.

✨But what if you don’t know what you don’t know? We’re here to help!✨

Join us for a live webinar next Wednesday from 11-12 to discuss ALL of your options and the evidence behind each. We’ll also point you in the right direction to find your own information to make your own choices when the time comes.

Registration is now open:

Transitional labor can be the most grueling part of your birth experience. Your body will release a whole slew or hormones to prepare your body to birth your baby. Your cervix will fully dilate and effect, and your uterus will likely start bearing down.

Transition is when we are most likely to hear “I can’t do this” or “I’m done” - and we always tell our clients that means they’re almost to the finish line!

Save this post and help yourself be prepared for transitional labor and a calm and confident birth!✨

Stage 1 labor starts when the cervix begins to dilate and ends when the cervix is fully dilated at 10 centimeters.

✨Early labor: This phase is also known as the latent phase. During this phase, the cervix begins to soften, thin out, and open up. Contractions may start, but they are usually mild and irregular. Early labor can last for several hours or even days!
👉🏼It is important to stay well-hydrated, eat light snacks, and rest as much as possible during early labor.👈🏼

✨Active labor: This phase is when the cervix dilates from 4 to 7 centimeters. Contractions become stronger, longer, and more regular, occurring every 3-5 minutes. The intensity of the contractions increases, and they may be accompanied by back pain or pressure. You may also experience nausea, vomiting, or chills during active labor.
👉🏼It is important to focus on breathing techniques and finding positions that are comfortable during this phase.👈🏼

✨Transition: This phase is when the cervix dilates from 8 to 10 centimeters. Contractions are very strong, lasting 60-90 seconds, and occurring every 2-3 minutes. You may feel intense pressure in their lower back and re**um, and they may experience a strong urge to push. It is common to feel overwhelmed, irritable, or emotional during transition.
👉🏼It is important to stay calm, focused, and to work with your provider and doula to manage the pain.👈🏼

It is SO important to stay well-informed, prepared, and to work closely with your partner and doula to prioritize and make decisions about how you hope to manage the pain and discomfort of labor.

want to set your baby up for success when it comes to sleep! Keep reading👇🏼

The truth is, babies (and all humans?) are unpredictable and cannot be expected to be perfect in any aspect - including sleep! But there are ways to lay the groundwork and set up for success.

✨watch for early sleep cues: you don’t want to wait until your baby is yawning, crying, and hard to console before trying for a nap/bedtime. Watch for early cues such as zoning out, averting eye contact, etc.

✨keep an eye on wake windows: in addition to cues, you should follow general wake windows for babies before they are on a clock schedule. For newborns, wake windows can be as short as 45 minutes, meaning that you should aim for a nap after baby is awake for only 45 minutes!

✨follow a routine: babies love to know what to expect. Following a similar routine (sleep sack, read a story, rock, put in crib) can help transition to bedtime.

✨stay consistent: similar routines and responses to crying can help send the message of what the expectation is regarding sleep

✨set up the environment: the nursery or sleep space should be pitch black with white noise, nice and cool, calm and peaceful

Interested in learning more? Comment here or message us and Katie will reach out for a free chat about sleep consulting services! Starting as young as newborn, we can work together to lay the groundwork for healthy sleep habits in a gentle and supportive way🤍
