We need new studies on depletion especially with the higher volumes used in today’s bowling environment.

Urethane use creates conditioner depletion in the front and carry-down. A research test completed nearly 20 years ago is revealing and demonstrates why patterns have continued to grow in total volume. Moreover, it shows the impact of urethane on conditioner depletion. Notice the big difference in depletion between using 360 or 600 on the cover of a urethane ball. The results may seem counter intuitive but is vital to understand to make better choices.

This study lead by Neil Stremmel revealed that nearly 6 units of oil was depleted after just 15 shots with a reactive ball at 360. At grits between 600 and 2000, 15 shots extracted 3.5 to 4 units of oil. Just think about the impact that modern covers have.

First week back to bowling! How did it go?

For 1-handers, focus on getting your upper body outside of the ball side hip, at the top of the swing. This can be done with both lateral trunk flexion and forward trunk flexion. At the top of the swing, strive for front-to-back shoulder alignment as well as the position of the bowling ball aligned with the head to outside the head. This is a critical pre-requisite position to reach a higher level.

Boost Your Accuracy

Accuracy in bowling means consistently hitting your target. It’s vital for raising your average, making cuts, and winning tournaments. Improve your accuracy by focusing on these three areas:

Alignment: Keep your hips, shoulders, knees, and feet aligned with your intended ball path.

Swing: Aim for a consistently straight swing. If your swing is loopy, work on straightening it.

Timing: Maintain a repeatable approach to ensure you and the ball reach the line consistently, reducing timing variations that impact your launch angle.
