The Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art will join museums nationwide in the Blue Star Museums initiative, a program that provides free admission to currently serving U.S. military personnel and their families this summer. The 2024 program will begin on Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 18, 2024, and end on Labor Day, Monday, September 2, 2024. Today we celebrate National Medal of Honor Day, a day to honor the courage and sacrifice of those who have received the military's highest honor. The Medal of Honor recognizes those who risk their lives going above and beyond the call of duty on the battlefield. We thank the heroes who have been awarded the Medal of Honor for their service to our country.

You know what we love? Removing the reproductive organs of animals for their own good. Which is why we love World Spay Day, which takes place on the fourth Tuesday in February — February 27 this year! It might sound harsh, but the truth is, failing to spay and neuter dogs and cats is responsible for millions of unwanted animals living on the streets without homes or food or being killed in shelters all over the world. So while it might make you twinge to think of a day celebrating animal sterilization, the truth is, the pain of putting all those animals down is far harsher.

For over 40 years the AKMA has been showcasing the talent of high school artists in Northwest Missouri and Northeast Kansas. Entry into the Regional High School Exhibition is by invitation only and extends to high schoolers in Northwest Missouri, Northeast Kansas, Kansas City and in the surrounding areas.

A “Best of Show” award will be presented along with honors for artists in each category. This exhibition will be on view Sunday, February 25 until Sunday, April 14, 2024.
