Experience the delight of L. auratum, a fragrant beauty that will captivate your senses!

The impressive, scented flowers will embellish your garden with elegance. To ensure her long-lasting presence, plant the bulbs in well-drained soil enriched with sand, allowing for a dry winter's slumber. With tender loving care, these bulbs will swell and split, granting you an ever-lasting display of grace and perfume. Sorry for the some of the photos have some environmental damages…

My journey to Edmonton was a truly unforgettable experience that I will always look back on with fondness, and I look forward to reflecting on it further during this season. However, the real highlight of my trip was yet to come - upon my return home, I was greeted by a playful and affectionate three-month-old kitten who has since become an integral part of my family. As I will adjust to this new addition, I am confident that ‘Mr. Mucci Tigerlilly’ will thrive within the boundaries I place before him. This little ball of energy entered my life, thanks to my grandchildren, who were captivated by his charm during a night out on the town, and decided to bring him home after inquiring about a sign that read, ‘FREE KITTEN’
Now, Mr. Mucci is an invaluable member of my family, spreading joy and inspiring all of to live life to the fullest by being playful and sometimes naughty. 😉…

Experience the bliss of not only an orange sunrise but also discovering my showcase feature of a majestic 61/2 foot tall Lilium davidii var. macranthum in full bloom. It had extended its beauty beyond the greenhouse roof! Discovering now to differentiate between Lilium davidii var.willmottiae apart … I still have doubts on what one it is as discrepancies with discriptions cause me to ponder my thoughts. Would love any help I can get. Orange ya beautiful nonetheless!!

I am thrilled to share with all of you , the exciting news of my colony of L. michiganense that has bloomed for the first time. I will anticipate many more seasons of blooms of this particular beauty.
My L. michigensense lilies are just a marvel, painting a kaleidoscope of 50 shades of ORANGE today within my gardens. But the pièce de résistance is my spotless wonder of 1283Watson. All of these wonders came from L. michiganense var Boyd 2020 seed collection that was OP. I remember when I collected these seeds several seasons ago, I broadcasted copious amounts in surrounding area’s. I must admit,. —— I am certainly happy I didn’t toss this one to the wind. 😉🤪🥂♥️

I love martagons,.. if you can’t hear me, let me say it louder ..I LOVE MARTAGONS
Today I have a chore of simply shaking these beauties in all of their splendor. Come look—-
These are a collection of unknown Martagons that I have been given and will bloom now for the second year. They were most original stock from the previous owner, many were scales that came from harvesting four years ago. Tiny and a garbage bag full,… I loaded up these three beds. Hence,. Three years later —- I get to reap what I have sown.
Some I have no idea of what they are and some I do still believe that they are seedlings of one of a kind hybrids of unique Martagons.. What’s in a name??? When it comes to Martagons, who cares.
These martagons I will be collecting the pollen for my exclusive crosses that I will be working with to create something furthermore —- I am hoping for Martasians …. A cross of Martagons and Asiatic Lilies... Let’s see what happens next. So for now, let’s clean them up by drying them off . Botrytis ( a fungal disease spread by spores that thrive in wet conditions) We will see none of that, if I can help it. I grow organically and I will not spray, so…. Let’s shake it up!! Dry them off a bit and call it a day.

Spring's vibrant colors, the joy of family, and a day focused on mental wellness. These gardens are truly soul-lifting!

Photos from Hartle/Gilman Gardens's post 04/21/2024

My leisurely morning walks allowed me to make various observations. Of note, I didn't use frost blankets during the recent two-day chill in the Twin Cities. Instead, I relied on leaf mulch and the debris from my Oak, Maple, Birch, Magnolia, Elderberry Evans Cherry, Redbud & Larch trees to protect my plants. Additionally, I decided to plant more seedlings after observing the surprising strength of my martagons.
The unique patterns, colors, shapes and layout of the foliage had me marveling the new and upcoming textures of these Martagons in my trial beds.

Photos from Hartle/Gilman Gardens's post 04/15/2024

Officially counted 9,978 martagons that will be blooming here at Hartlegilmangardens. So let’s just say land of 10,000…. 😳😮💯…
Most clumps are 10-12 pips. I will anticipate lots of marts this fall from this Minnesota grown martagons farm in the city. Right here, Hartlegilmangardens.com.
I have my work cut out for me come fall. Stay tune for tons of photos cause this year I will be right where I need to be.
To day I fertilized with some well rotted manure as well as worm tea . It’s stinky out there, but my lilies have never looked so happy. Lots of seedlings that will be introducing themselves this year. Let’s hope that are worthy … 😉… some were crossed by me with a plan, and some were crossed by pollinators with a purpose… such an exciting time of year !!

It’s a daffodil kind of day. Shipping is completely finished with just a few select things to get out into the mail or car delivered for customers this weekend. With over 400 different varieties of the yellow flowers that are starting to emerge,.. it should be a welcoming site that Spring has sprung, at least here at the farm in the city.

Week one was preparing for the South Canterbury Lily Society— hauling, setting up, intake and directing classification. Running to local farms for supplies, meeting up with a few for open gardens and private tours.
Master of the show, was Chair John Oliver and other Judges and clerks, the show went on with profound stems, glorious florets..( something new for me with judging), and outstanding designs.
The location of the lily show was at the gymnasium of the collage of Roncalli Catholic College, Sacred Heart Basilica, Timaru, New Zealand.
I took a chance and entered of few of my photographs,… I couldn’t be more pleased with the outcome.
A NZ welcome I will never forget, making me feel right at home… John, Bob, Berry, Martin, David, Ross, Beverly, Elizabeth, Fern, Katherine, Leonie, Ann, Leslie, Kay, and Louis… You changed my spirit and I can’t wait to return again for another opportunity to once again judges your lilies…. WOW the profound stellar horticulture experts are definitely shining and for good reason…. The show was spectacular… ♥️

spectacular summer roses, daunting kniphofia, daucas carota fit for her queen. Cynara cardunculus that appeared thornless, honey bees 174 Hz hum of intertwining harmonies.
The gifts of this garden will be revisited many times during my visit, as it is a Rose Stone throw away.
