"Víkingur Ólafsson’s new recording of [Goldberg Variations] ... is characteristically crisp, clean and crystalline but none of that prepared me for his Festival Hall performance. Those qualities were present in spades, but there was an added something. Call it the magic of theatre or the tangible engagement of an intensely listening audience, but this was a reading that added up to considerably more than the sum of its 32 parts." - Clive Paget for The Guardian (full review at the link below)
Tickets are going *fast* for Víkingur Ólafsson’s Goldberg Variations on January 30 and 31 at the Ordway! This opportunity to experience Bach's enduring masterpiece performed by one of today's greatest pianists is not to be missed. Visit schubert.org for tickets.

Víkingur Ólafsson review – Icelandic pianist brings magic and spontaneity to Bach Performing the Goldberg Variations to a packed and tangibly engaged hall, this was a hypnotic reading that added up to considerably more than the sum of the work’s 32 parts.
Highly acclaimed German soprano Lotte Lehmann performed with the Schubert Club on November 6th, 1936- a little over 87 years ago! On February 17, 1906, violinist Arnold Dolmetsch performed in a Schubert Club concert titled “Music of the Olden Time.” He became a standout performer of early music rather than simply studying it, something that was not common during this time. Yet his talents were not restricted to just performing, but to the building and restoration of instruments as well. He worked on a variety of instrument types including spinets, viols, fortepianos, harps, rebecs, Baroque violins, and viola d’amores. If you would like to learn more about Arnold Dolmetsch or other past Schubert Club artists, visit https://schubert.org/artist-archive/arnold-dolmetsch/
One week from today, the Landmark Center will be filled with the sounds of holiday spirit from the Songs of the Season Courtroom Concerts! These two performances will take place at noon and 6pm at the Landmark Center First Floor Cortile and will feature carols by Minnesota composers performed by soprano Carrie Henneman Shaw with the Lux String Quartet.
These concerts are FREE and will be taking place on December 14th. Mark your calendars today!

"Miloš...has been soaring to the upper reaches of the classical sales charts over the past decade, even landing some albums on the pop charts. On Saturday night, he proved a fine ambassador for his instrument as he performed for an audience more accustomed to pianists, violinists and singers....this handsome, articulate guitarist guided the audience through a crowd-pleasing program of mostly baroque music." - Rob Hubbard for the Minneapolis Star Tribune
