Miss Zachari spent the past weekend at the Dance Teacher Web conference. The weekend was filled with ballet and general dance technique class, as well as getting to check out vendors for costumes, makeup, fundraisers and more.

Highlights of the weekend were learning a lot of new patterns to bring back to the studio, and two classes with ABT principle dancer Devon Teuscher.

Every dancer is an individual who progresses at their own pace. Some are slow and steady, while others have "growth spurts" where what they've been learning suddenly clicks. Dancers should be encouraged through every stage of their dance journey - the times of growth, the times of holding steady, and everything in between.

I love seeing all of the friendships that have developed at the studio over the years.

We love introducing little dancers to ballet! Our Baby Ballet class (ages 3-5) introduces beginners to ballet basics while also teaching them skills like following directions and interacting with other children. For dancers who are a little older or ready to learn more, Pre Ballet (age 4-7) is the perfect fit! We also have options for beginners age 8 through adult.

Today was the Xtreme Challenge, so both Can You Feel the Love Tonight and Fire Dancers danced again to see where they would place in the top 3. Both dances came in 2nd in their categories (teen novice small group and senior novice small group respectively)! Great job to all of the dancers!

All three of our group dances did fantastically at competition today!

A Norwegian Dance got Platinum.

Can You Feel the Love Tonight got Platinum and made top 3 in Teen Novice Small Groups.

Fire Dancers got Platinum Elite and top 3 in Senior Novice Small Groups.

Since they made the top 3, both Can You Feel the Love Tonight and Fire Dancers will be competing again on Sunday during the Xtreme Challenge at approximately 3:31 and 3:58 pm respectively. You can support them in person by heading out to Shakopee High School, or virtually by watching online at dxevents.com/watch-live and then giving them a shout out by tagging the studio!

Today was groups at competition. Can You Feel the Love Tonight and A Norwegian Dance both represented us in the Teen Novice Small Group category, and Fire Dancers competed in the Senior Novice Small Group category.

Everyone did a fantastic job!

Today was the Xtreme Showdown at competition.

The Xtreme Team kicked it off with the dance they learned this week. Amara, Ella and Jackie did a great job!

Holiday was Grand Champion in the Adult Novice Solo category (and was excited to have other dances in her category to compete against).

Cate and Virginia came in second in the Senior Intermediate Duo/Trio category. All three dances in the category were fantastic - I'm glad I'm not a judge having to rank so many strong routines.

Our two dances in the top 3 will compete again on Thursday as part of the Xtreme Showdown, where they will be ranked by the judges to determine their final placement in their respective categories.

We also have three dancers participating in the Xtreme Team. This was open to dancers who placed at one of the DX regionals and wanted to put in the extra time this week learning a special dance to kick off the Xtreme Showdown.

Day 2 closed with more strong performances for us - Aurora in Adult Novice Solos, and Once Upon a Dream in Senior Intermediate Duo/Trio!

Our second day at Nationals started off strong with wonderful performances by our three senior novice solos: Lost Boy, Paquita, and The Butterfly!

Nationals are off to a great start! Congratulations to our Teen Novice Duo, A Million Dreams, on getting platinum and 5th place (in a category with over 20 dances).

Quite a few movies have been filmed in Minnesota, and one of the best known is the Mighty Ducks. Our Pointe 2 class used this as inspiration for our hockey themed dance, The Crowd Goes Wild.

Did you know that there used to be a carousel on the top floor of a building in downtown St Paul?

The Cafesjian Carousel started life as the carousel at the Minnesota State Fair. In the 1980s, a family named Cafesjian saved the carousel and moved it to downtown St Paul. A few years later, it was saved again by a community fundraising effort, and moved to it's current location at the Como Zoo.

Our Ballet 1-2 class is paying tribute to this truly Minnesotan carousel with the Carousel Riders dance on May 18 at 1:00 pm and 3:30 pm!
