💪 Today we joined the @endtogenocidecoalition and @floridapalestinenetwork to fight for the people of Orlando and in solidarity with our Palestinian brothers and sisters. The police threatened arrests and forced us out, after council targeted a comrade and attempted to silence her. It’s was left unclear if we were trespassed as the KKKops gave contradicting answers. 🫂 There were Jews, Palestinians, Queer folk, and many other peoples standing hand in hand in unity against racism, fascism, apartheid, and capitalism. Assata Shakur is a political activist who was involved in the anti-imperialist, student rights, & black liberation movements in the US during the 1970’s. She was a member of the Black Panther Party & therefore a target of the FBI’s relentlessly violent campaign against black organizations. Despite forensic evidence supporting her innocence, she was falsely convicated of murdering a New Jersey State Trooper & was given a life sentence in prison with an additional 30 years on top. In 1979, Shakur escaped from a maximum security prison unit & fled to Cuba, where she was granted political asylum in 1984. While in Cuba she was reunited with her daughter, whom she had delivered while imprisoned & as a newborn had been ripped from her arms by the state. In 2013 the FBI placed Shakur on their Most Wanted Terrorist list, making her the 1st woman & the 2nd domestic terrorist to ever appear on the list, & increased her bounty to 2 million dollars. Shakur continues to be an inspiration to many and a symbol of resistance against injustice.
