What's that being built at the former Kwan's restaurant spot in Salem? Four years after longtime Salem staple Kwan's Original Cuisine closed its doors for good, the pagoda-style restaurant has been demolished.

Each day we come in it’s getting more and more empty! It’s a weird feeling but also, a thankful feeling for all of the support.

It's not the end but maybe a pause. 🤍

For now, this is a sad post to announce that our “store moving” has turned to store closing for Urban Block*. This has not been an easy decision by any means, but one that we feel has to be made with the sudden demolition of our building.

This shift has required us to put a lot into perspective, and we are trying to remember that everything does happen for a reason, even if we don't understand, or see that reason just yet. 

To be frank, we are really proud of what we have created and how far we have come in our partnership. And we are so grateful for our community and customers who have become friends. We are literally only here because of all of you. 

In fact, our mantra has always been "community over competition” - and during these most recent events, we have felt the community so much… Not only from our customers, but from other businesses in town, and that is truly amazing!

At this time, we are using this as an opportunity to rest and reset. But please note: This is truly a “see you later” - we will continue taking our time while we evaluate next steps as we move into the next season.

What a week! There is no doubt that we have the best community and customers around us ♥️ stop in today for 20% off!

As we come up on 6 years at Urban Block & Urban53, we have received some sudden and sad news.

We have been informed that effective September 13th, this building will be going through demolition, and our lease has been involuntarily terminated.

To say this is sudden is an understatement and for it to also occur as we look to enter the biggest time of the year for not only small business but the retail world makes it hit even harder. 💔

We have poured our hearts, sweat, tears (at times) into these businesses, and this building (windows especially 🤪) and we would not be here today without ALL OF YOU ♥️

We are actively looking for location options and trying to navigate this change, while also knowing that sometimes it is okay to pause and reset.

So in short: don’t forget about your favorite shops, restaurants and all the small businesses in town - go visit, say hi, maybe buy a candle ❤️ you all mean the world to all small business owners ❤️

Not sure if we should admit it or not… but our first shipment of fall and holiday arrived yesterday 🤦🏼‍♀️

Had to let it sit for a little before we unpacked because summer JUST started 😭
