The University of Michigan Men's Glee club made a surprise pit stop at Bryn Mawr yesterday, giving our guests (and proud Lauer U of M alums) an amazing pop-up performance! The Willamette Valley in Spring makes a pretty dramatic background, doesn't it?

Clanking metal, gentle drips, and 90s rock in the background? It must be #wvcellarseason Here, our assistant winemaker Will is "topping" each barrel. Barrels are porous, allowing a small exchange of air that softens any edges our young wines may have. However, that means water can evaporate out, too. Once every few weeks, we have to top every single one of our 360 oak barrels to prevent air from building up and negatively impacting the wines. It's also a great chance to look for any off odors or strange bioactivity in the wines, keeping things clean and safe for long term storage. Though winter is traditionally our quiet season, there's still plenty keeping us busy!
