Helping individual families and church bodies to make a dynamic difference in the lives of orphans through foster care, adoption, global orphan care.
As creators of the Empty Chair ministry, Ray and Kelli Moore felt God's calling to support area churches and facilitate new orphan care ministries across our state and region.
Happy first day of summer!
URGENT: 127 Place is working with a mom with three kids. They have been living in a standard motel room for many months. She has worked as a waitress and delivery driver. She just got a job at one of her child's daycare, but does not have the money for the next week's rent because of the transition. If you can help, please donate at www.127place.org
The weekly rent is $380. It is due today. I know this seems high, but there are no utilities to pay, and many moms can't qualify for a lease because of low income. This is their only choice for keeping a roof over their children's heads.

Here's how YOU are helping local families.
We met a mom in Shawsville to get an oil change and get her 2004 car checked out for a trip she's making to file for custody for two of her older children. Her two younger children live with her.
She lives in a motel where she has been living for quite a while. She supports her family by driving for door dash and other similar delivery services.
In addition to the oil change, it turned out that she had a leaky radiator and a few other needs. The bill for the day was $810 and 127 Place was able to provide that help thanks to your donations.

Last month we received $5,500 in extra giving. Those funds, some left from end-of-year giving and recurring donations will allow us to serve 7 families this month.
Please join us in praying for resources to meet the needs of families for the rest of the year! God is the ultimate provider, so we will trust Him to accomplish His purposes!

Did you know? We have NO paid staff! We have four volunteers, five board members and very little overhead. We have no office, no rent, no payroll, no assets.
That means your donations go directly to support families and children.
The only non-program expenses that we had in 2023 were for accounting fees for our yearly IRS Form 990 and a few meals for people coming to Monthly Chats. 98.5% of donations went toward family and child support.
There are so many ways you can help with donations of items like clothing, furniture or monetary donations.
But we do things that don't cost money too: A listening ear, transportation, advice, laundry, furniture delivery, a little childcare, and emergency response.
Thank you so much! 🧡 In May, the total support 127 Place provided was $8,523.
Types of Support: utility bills, rent assistance, car repairs, gasoline for cars and generator (electricity cut off), tires (threads showing), mattresses, fans, vacuum (for cleaning business), groceries.

Rural Retreat church goes above and beyond to provide for community A church in Rural Retreat just received national recognition for their work to help families through a program called CarePortal.
Most of the support we recently provided has been for women and children living on the brink of homelessness. Two moms with three children each have apartments, but they are not able to pay the rent. One of them has a child on the autism spectrum and has not been able to work because the child was kicked out of daycare for throwing toys at other children.

Unfortunately, we are now informing the families we have been helping that they may not be able to get help or only very limited assistance from 127 Place after May. We rely on donations from the community and have no paid staff. If you want to donate https://www.127place.org/
We got a request from a local elementary school to provide a bed for a child who had been living in a house with several families. The school said that there were things going on in that home that were not appropriate for a child, so the boy was going to live with his father, but the father did not have a bed for him.
With your donations, the bed arrived from Amazon! Help us make this possible for more families. We're asking for donations now: https://www.127place.org/

April 5 is the day set aside to recognize those who have experienced child abuse. Maybe you have seen the pinwheels or the posts to wear blue tomorrow?
Did you know over 60% of kids who enter foster care have experienced some type of documented abuse? The numbers may be much higher because many children are not able to verbalize their abuse.
As a community we can stand in the gap for kids who need healing from abuse but it's an uncomfortable topic. Will you break the silence and wear blue tomorrow to show your support for these kids?
Wear blue tomorrow!
Tomorrow is Wear Blue Day! We do this to bring awareness and show our commitment to preventing child abuse! Please take a picture in your blue, share it on social media, and tag the Southern VA Child Advocacy Center!

You end the year with a BANG by giving a tax-deductible donation to 127 Place, helping support vulnerable families this winter. Check out what your donation could do HERE!
In the last few days, I was privileged to be in a Christmas story that is very special.
There is a mom, whom I will call Olivia, that 127 Place helped a couple of times with her electric bill. She shared a couple of weeks ago that she told her kids that there would be no Christmas this year because of her continuing struggles.
Another mother we have served contacted me a few days ago saying that she had a bit good financial fortune and wanted to bless another mother who was struggling because she knows that life so well.
We were already going to take a small bag of groceries to Olivia, so it was easy to slip an envelope with cash into the bag. When she looked through the bag, she found the envelope and opened it. For a moment, she was silent as her head dropped. Then she sobbed, "Oh my God! Thank you, thank you! Thank God!" We explained that the donor wanted to remain anonymous. The enveope was filled with $20 bills totalling $500.
Yesterday, another 127 Place volunteer texted me asking if we had anyone who could use a free Christmas Tree because Tractor Supply was giving them away for free. I went down there and asked about the trees. They said that the trees were all gone. I told them that I was with a non-profit that helped mothers with children. As I was walking to my car, one of the employees called out that there were some left. He led me to his car where three trees were loaded on top. He got one down and loaded into my van and said Merry Christmas!
I let the volunteer know that I was able to get one of the trees that she told me about. I said that I had extra lights that I would be taking. She sent ornaments with her teenage son.
God really orchestrated an awesome story just in time for Christmas! Thank you, Jesus!
Today has been like living in a couple of Christmas movies! In one movie, a 127 Place volunteer and her family and extended family decided about a week ago to provide Christmas for one of the families that we serve. It looks like a Christmas that the three kids will remember for a long time! I love working with people who are generous and servant-hearted!
All these kids have one wish - for a family to adopt them and love them. ❤️

Single women with children have it hard - especially those who are poor. They need help with rent, utilities, food, clothing, transportation and more. Roanoke City has the largest foster care population in the state. Roanoke County/Salem have the 10th largest. Helping mothers, helps kids stay out of foster care. Poverty should not be the reason kids lose their families! You can help: www.127place.org or email me at [email protected]

A LITTLE HELP EACH MONTH MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE...
If you wonder what we’ve been up to, all you need to do is ask! We stay busy! Click here to help: https://127place.harnessgiving.org/giveup-giveback
In the last couple of weeks alone we’ve:
*Moved a single mother and children into a home
*Driven a single mother with children home across state lines after her car was totaled in a car accident
*Finished leading a Trauma Competent Caregiving Class for social workers, adopting mothers, teachers, and those who deal with vulnerable children.
*Met with a mother who needed adoption/fostering parental advice
*Washed laundry for a mother of a child with special needs
*Took groceries to a family who had run out of food stamps for the month
The nature of what we do is to help families in crisis. And our community? They are AMAZING at pitching in when they hear the need. But we don’t always want to overwhelm our community with every need that comes along — and that’s why recurring donors MATTER. That’s why they are deeply needed. We’d love for you to consider being a part of the backbone of what we do at 127 Place, day in and day out.
$3/month could help us get formula, diapers or wipes for a family in crisis
$5/month could help us get bus tickets for a parent without a car
$10/month could help us get a heater for a family in the cold winter months
$20/month could help us get a child off the floor and into a snuggly bed
$50/month could get two families’ cars repaired and back on the road
$100/month could help us get a vulnerable family into a safe residence
What small thing could you give up (a value menu item? a coffee? a movie ticket) in order to give back today?
This can you give up to give back?
* Keep poverty from taking children from their parents
* Keep vulnerable families off the streets
* Help children have food in their stomachs and beds to sleep on
* Keep parents working when their cars break with repairs and bus passes
* Let our community know they aren't alone, and don't have to be.
We're looking for just 10 new recurring donors to support us as we support vulnerable families in the Roanoke area. Would you give up a movie ticket to do that? A coffee? A value item?

Our Story
As creators of the Empty Chair ministry, Ray and Kelli Moore felt God's calling to support area churches develop their own way of following God’s command to take care of the orphan (Jm. 1:27, Ps. 68:5, Deut. 10:18). It is our desire to see the Body of Christ live on purpose, changing our localities, nations, and globe by focussing on the vulnerable. We believe that by working together, we can accomplish more than we can alone.
Our goal is that one day the Body of Christ is so equipped, so emboldened, and so committed that we empty Virginia of children waiting to be adopted, that we fill the foster care system such that they are more families than children, and that we are are able to let Christ’s love and light transform those most vulnerable in our society.
We endeavor to help churches find a way that fits their congregation uniquely. For those interested we have four large projects that we would love to help churches and individuals get plugged in. We’d love to talk about each of these projects in person and in depth. They are: Safe Families, Foster Care and Adoption, Life Unlimited Orphanage in Guatemala, and the Kyrgyzstan Community Project. And of course, we can create a custom plan for your church that meets your congregants individual needs.
