In June one of our consultants had the pleasure of visiting The Dalles-Wasco County Public Library and Southern Wasco County Library as they were gearing up for summer reading! Both libraries have nice open spaces and delightful areas for kids.
We visited Sherman County Public School Library earlier this summer. Got to meet the new library director and library assistant, and see the the interesting things students are making with the 3-D printer. Love the "Room of Requirement" (AKA supply closet)!
Earlier this year one of our consultants visited Arlington Public Library and Gilliam County Public Library. Both libraries have very inviting spaces! Our staff also enjoyed seeing photos of local graduating seniors posted around the towns.
One of our consultants had a great visit to the Oregon Trail Library District, Boardman, Heppner, & Irrigon in Morrow county. Did you know...
- The Boardman branch is located in an old Circle K!
- The Heppner branch shares a building with the local museum.
- The Irrigon branch was recently given a special phone by the Veteran's Services office that allows folks who are deaf and hard of hearing to make phone calls and have a transcript made of the calls.
Yesterday, some of the Government Services staff paid a visit to the State of Oregon Law Library to get a tour of the newly retro-fitted building. We had a great time, and it was lovely to see the newly remodeled space!

One of our consultants stopped by Fossil City/Public Library and got to meet the interim director and chair of the Friends of the Library group. Thanks for keeping the "biggest little library in Eastern Oregon" running so well!
We had the pleasure of visiting with the staff of Jefferson County Library District. They have a delightful children's area and an impressive board game collection!

One of our consultants visited Langlois Public Library out on the coast. The inside recently got a bit of a facelift and it looks great! They also have some fantastic new art.

Rodeos are a big part of Oregon summertime, with the Pendleton Roundup in September serving as the grand finale! We have a number of titles in our collection that emphasize the rich history of rodeos in the state, and this great article from Oregon from a few years ago gives a great rundown of where to see broncos for yourself!

One of our library consultants traveled to the Guin Library at OSU Hatfield Marine Science Center on the coast. The library has a fantastic art collection, a dedicated children's area, a robust library of things, intriguing displays, and even a room named after the former director.
Our State Librarian stopped in at Driftwood Library last month. With this heat wave we would all sure love to take a trip back to Lincoln City.

Our library consultants are on the road visiting libraries this summer! At Sweet Home Public Library we got to see their vibrant children's area and fun collections, and heard about the success of their digital equity grant (thanks to LSTA funding from Institute of Museum and Library Services). They held tech hours to assist people applying for jobs, using devices, filling out forms, etc. They even helped one person participate in an out-of-state court hearing!

The State Library of Oregon will host a Digital Navigation Resource Specialist through the (ACC), and AmeriCorps service experience program in 2024-2025.
The position will be based in Northeast Oregon, working with libraries to identify community needs and compile resources that provide affordable internet access, device acquisition, digital skills training, and application support.
Potential candidates go through a general application and interview process and are then matched with a host institution based on location and interest. This year-long position will begin in September 2024.

At the State Library of Oregon, we are migrating from the Islandora digital asset management system to the Recollect collection management system for management, description, access, and preservation of digital collections. The Digital Collections site will not be available while the migration and implementation are in process from June 30 until August. We look forward to the features of our new system, including an exhibition module and a digital preservation module.
