Chaffee County Search and Rescue – South (CCSAR-S) is a 100% unpaid volunteer organization serving the southern portion of Chaffee County, Colorado. With twelve mountains over 14,000 feet in elevation, Chaffee County is often called the "Home of the Fourteeners." Our volunteer members have a common desire to help others who are lost or hurt in the backcountry serving hikers, hunters, skiers, mountain bikers, children, and elderly citizens. Our organization operates on funding that has been donated from the public, grants, and fundraisers like Colorado Gives.

Our team is typically called out on missions sixty or more times yearly. These missions are often in rugged mountain terrain and occur during all seasons and weather conditions. We are raising funds to improve and provide uniforms and equipment for our growing volunteer team.

Thanks to everyone who attended Ullrvation last Saturday. It was a very fun event, and thanks to you, it was a very successful fund-raiser to help support our all volunteer team. We even had a "big wheel” race - a transport device we often use to get injured subjects out of the backcountry. We are especially thankful to our sponsors who donated items for the silent auction: 22 Designs, Salida Mountain Sports, Vino Salida, Elevation Beer Company, Brown Dog Coffee & Gnar, Murdoch's, Oveja Negra, Ride Concepts, Mountain Time Soap, Skida, 6 Point Socks, Ripton, Mt Princeton Hot Springs, Koflach Albona, Colorado Sports Recycler, Ortovox, and Salida Stove & Spa.

In-river work on the Salida Lowhead Dam removal has begun and the boat chute's first drop is already gone! Boaters are reminded there is a mandatory portage from CR 166/Slaughterhouse Bridge to Salida Boat Ramp.

The low-head dam upriver of Salida is being removed.
