Did you know that hummingbirds have excellent memories? They can return to the same area each spring and fall even if they don’t take the same routes, so if your garden is a hummingbird favorite, they’ll keep coming back! They can also remember which flowers they visited for nectar and how long ago even though they eat every 10-15 minutes and can visit up to 2000 flowers PER DAY! Wish I had the memory of a hummingbird!

Art often imitates life, it draws inspiration from the every day. From a sunset, to a beautiful landscape. From a curious child to a playful pup. Sometimes making things fantastical and almost other worldly, to other times staying true to its inspiration and replicating. In this case, it’s not hard to tell where the inspiration comes for our Bolivian dolls. It comes from the everyday, hardworking women, the cholitas. It's Cactus Fair Trade fights poverty through art. They specialise in Haitian metal sculptures that are handmade from recycled steel oil drums by artisans in Croix-des-Bouquets. Their online store also features textiles, wood carvings, paintings, and other folk art from Latin America. It's Cactus maintains long-term trade relationships, pays in advance, and uses profits to support education and microloan projects. They are a member of the Fair Trade Federation.

LaGuerre Dieufaite 1972-2024

At just 52 years old, LaGuerre Dieufaite’s life was cut short. He was murdered by gangs in Haiti while working as a motorcycle taxi driver to try to make ends meet. He was a family man, leaving behind his wife and three kids. In reading some of the funeral posts, one quote jumped out at me and it said, “this shows me the hope is far away for the country because the good people are dying.” It is a real tragedy to see good, honest, hard working people suffering at the hands of violence.
