Fall is my favorite season hands down. Summer temperatures are cooling, children are back in school, and a relaxed rhythm seems to predominate. Everywhere you look there’s a riot of color from orange pumpkins to red apples and yellow and burgundy leaves on the streets. And, is there anything better than a warm slice of pumpkin pie with whipped cream?
Fall is also a great time to put your health and fitness plans in motion. Many of the gyms have reopened after a long 16-month pandemic hiatus and are excited for you to see their facilities.
MCSIG has negotiated between 10-50% off regular membership rates at several fitness centers in Monterey County. To claim the reduced rate, present your MCSIG health insurance card at the counter and the attached flyer and request the discount. The membership is between you and the fitness center, MCSIG does not pay any portion of the membership. You benefit from the discounted rate.
Check out the following gyms and significant savings available at www.mcsig.com under Wellness tab. It is always advisable to try out the gym during the time slot you expect to attend before you join. Many of the clubs offer free passes for this reason.
Consider joining only if the facility is in your price range and offers the classes, equipment and atmosphere you need to stay active and motivated. It is not necessary to go to a gym to stay fit, but it can be more convenient and socially enjoyable.
Home - MCSIG MCSIG keeps health care affordable with 100-percent coverage for in-network preventative care and most major surgeries, and no deductible for illness-related doctor visits
Every journey starts from somewhere. But if you don’t know where your starting point is, plotting your course will be much more difficult.
A good starting point may be a biometric screening. Biometric screenings can serve as a compass, keeping you oriented toward their health goals and on track with your healthy choices.
Starting October 5, MCSIG will offer FREE biometric screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, pulse and new this year – oxygen saturation to all members. Participation is voluntary and the results are confidential.
Earn points (1 to 4) for your healthy values in Healthy Reward$. Results are available immediately. NO fasting is necessary.
Members can attend any clinic listed on the attached schedule. To make an appointment today, click https://onsitewellnessnetwork.com/?MCSIG-appointment or go to www.mcsig.com tomorrow and click on Health Screenings under the Wellness tab at the top of the page.
You now have access to Transcarent, a new health and care benefit! Transcarent is your one stop for all MCSIG benefits with concierge support to help you get the care you need and deserve! Don’t delay, get your pay at www.wellsteps.com/mcsig. Healthy Reward$ points are due next week (June 1, 2021).
“NO LEVEL” on your WellSteps account means you are missing the behavior change campaign most likely. Please contact us to complete an alternate standard.
Q: Can I still earn a reward if I missed the spring (Work of Art) and fall (Fitness Buddy Finale) behavior change campaigns?
A: Yes, you can complete an alternative standard event which is an activity (walk, run, dance, cycle, swim, roll, etc.) of your choosing that is at least 30 minutes or 2 miles in length and the attached 8-week exercise log. The exercise log is also available on WellSteps (www.wellsteps.com/mcsig).
As proof of your event (virtual), we ask that you email us a photo of either your registration form, bib, finisher’s medal or a photo of your wearable device time/distance, if you create your own event.
Please contact either Jessica Amezcua [email protected] or me [email protected] to receive approval. All activities must be completed by June 1, 2021.

The 6-week Fitness Buddy Finale challenge wraps up this Sunday 3/28. The goal of the challenge was to team up with a buddy (virtual) and encourage each other to be physically active (30 minutes) on most days of the week. According to research reported in the British Journal of Sports Medicine (2020;54:1499-1506), even just a little bit of moderate to vigorous activity adds up to better health. Benefits (cardiovascular and strength) were realized with as little as 11 minutes of activity for those who were otherwise sedentary.
“Exercise snacks” are the hottest trend in fitness research. Exercise snacks are small amounts (11 minutes) of vigorous (to you) activity done during the day. Studies find that exercise snacks can be as effective as one long period of exercise. And the beauty of exercise snacks is all vigorous activity counts, no special equipment is needed and the time requirement is minimal. Try some of these family-friendly ways from Blue Zones to add an exercise snack to your day.
