Elizabeth Blackwell didn’t let rejection by over 10 medical schools dash her dreams of becoming a doctor. She also refused to disguise herself as a man to gain admission, saying "It must be pursued in the light of day, and with public sanction, in order to accomplish its end." In 1949, she graduated from Geneva Medical College in New York, becoming the first woman in the U.S. to earn a medical degree. For , we honor Dr. Blackwell and the many other women "firsts" in healthcare.
