Winter is coming!
Temperatures have dropped and it's time for our landscapes to prepare for winter rest. Mother Nature can provide what's needed now for established plants from here on out. Hand-water any newly planted plants. Over the next couple of weekends, take the time to winterize your system and ensure your yard is ready for what we all hope will be an awesome winter season.

Spring may be late-- but it has finally arrived! The best time to manage weeds is before they germinate and grow. The second-best time is while they're small!
Weber Basin Water will be charging our secondary water lines starting April 24th.

Our Localscaping homeowners have come up with so many awesome ideas for maximizing the functionality of their spaces. The Jensens created this fabulous planted drive area for their RV and work vehicle storage. This solution WOULD NOT work for a regular, daily-use driveway. However, if you will only use it once a week or less, this works great!
Planting Bed Maintenance Located in West Jordan, Utah the Conservation Garden Park showcases waterwise landscaping examples as well as interactive educational exhibits on how to achieve a waterwise landscape.
Planning new plantings for your landscape? This list contains some of our favorite very low-water options. They're listed in order of seasonal bloom so as long as you select at least one from each row, you'll have season-long interest in your landscape. The list contains mostly native perennials but we've thrown in a few adapted varieties for good measure. Learn more about each of these plants in our online plant database. http://conservationgardenpark.org/plants
It's been cold and miserable-- and still the weeds LOVE IT. These unwelcome invaders are already starting to germinate in your landscape, the sooner you apply a pre-emergent (there are some organic varieties as well) the less work you'll do all season long. An ounce of prevention is worth FAR MORE than the many pounds of cure skipping this step could require-- especially in planting beds that have not yet been converted to drip irrigation.

🌸🐿🐝🦋🐦If you want a yard that is teeming with life, plant viburnum. The plant is striking, with beautiful foliage and bold flowers that attract pollinators, followed by red to black berries that attract birds, squirrels, and other wildlife. Plus, their dense foliage makes an ideal place for birds and small animals to secret themselves away! You may be surprised at the variety you'll find in the various cultivars! Taller cultivars are often used as a natural hedge or privacy screen. They also work well as a specimen plant, or as part of a mixed border.

In a NORMAL year, the Pasque Flowers would already be in bloom. Clearly, this year is not normal (thank goodness!) but Pasque Flowers will still be among the first flowers of any season, regardless of the exact date the season begins. The blooms last for a month or so and are then followed by the seed heads-- which gradually fade from pink to white over the next couple of months.
So many of the "classic" landscape plants have gotten breeding overhauls over the last decade or so. The once-humble flowering quince is one of them. The traditional varieties performed JUST GOOD ENOUGH to rationalize keeping them. That's all changed with the newer Double Take series of Flowering Quince from Proven Winners which boasts much larger flowers that appear in far greater numbers on a plant that's significantly smaller. Win/Win/Win.
