Well deserved recognition for our Admissions team led by alum Dr. Ben Chan. The Alumni Association works closing with the admissions team supporting them with scholarships, physician volunteers to assist the admissions committee and virtual interview process. They bring their A game everyday.

We are so proud that the our Office of Admissions was among the 2022 recipients of the “Leadership in Inclusive Excellence Award.” The award recognizes organizations or individuals who are examples of equity transformation and leadership at the University of Utah.

“The Spencer Fox Eccles School of Medicine Office of Admissions models equity transformation through newly created policies, practices, and programs in the application and screening process for medical school applicants. Their efforts intentionally move us closer to the goal of eliminating health disparities for all patients, particularly those who have been historically excluded and further marginalized.”

The Utah Medical Orchestra is performing its Fall 2022 Concert featuring works by Bizet, Mendelssohn, Handel, Falla, and Elgar, performed by members of the Utah healthcare community and conducted by Dr. Matthew Mainella. Admission is free; tickets are not required.

Congratulations Dr. Smitha Warrier!! 🎉

Smitha Warrier, MD, is now serving as the Chief Surgical Operations Officer for University of Utah Health Hospitals and Clinics (UUHC).

Dr. Warrier will work to advance the objectives and goals of the hospital's surgical specialties across the continuum of care. She will also work with U of U Health's Quality team to improve operative safety, quality, growth, and efficiency.

“Our very own MS3 RealMD Co-Facilitator, Savannah Gelhard, hosts our third episode of the RealMD podcast! She interviews fellow MS3, Eric Tokita, on the topic of “Be Creative in your Community.” Eric talks about how he develops memes relevant to course content and the student experience as a means of reflection and building community within his class. As part of these Education Days, RealMD is excited to facilitate a lunch for students to reconnect and reflect on their clerkship experiences!

Here is a snapshot of our intro to last week’s Ed Day Lunch which focused on making meaning out of new and unexpected experiences that come up during 3rd year. After providing an intro and some suggested prompts, students gather in small groups to eat lunch and chat about their experiences. This is something so valuable to one’s development and self-understanding during what can be a very busy and overwhelming time in medical school.
