Happy heavenly birthday to our co-founder, Pedro Cortez 🤍 Pedro (1918-1984) An immigrant from Guadalajara Mexico, Pedro’s journey truly embodies the American dream. He arrived in San Antonio with a vision in his heart and a passion for sharing the authentic culture of his homeland.
Pedro and his wife Cruz started Mi Tierra in 1941 as a three table café. Through their dedication and hard work, Pedro and Cruz not only established La Familia Cortez Restaurants but also became pillars of the community, inspiring others to celebrate their roots and embrace the beauty of Mexican heritage.

Today, we honor Pedro's enduring legacy by continuing his mission to preserve and promote Mexican culture. Our restaurants stands as a testament to his vision, where every dish embodies the authentic flavors and every gathering fosters a sense of community and connection.
