According to the Texas Department of Transportation, Texas saw an increase in the number of motor vehicle fatalities, rising to 4,489 in 2021 from 3,896 in 2020. 24% of those deaths were due to drivers being under the influence of alcohol.

There were 15,764 serious injury crashes in Texas in 2021, resulting in 19,448 people sustaining serious injuries. Overall, 239,539 people were injured due to motor vehicle collisions.

46.20% of deaths were related to unrestrained passengers.
