The dome's exterior was facing challenges as it started to show signs of fading and peeling. Alpha Painting & Decorating Co., Inc., the coatings subcontractor, partnered with Carboline to ensure a seamless restoration.

After a meticulous color-matching process, Carboline's team provided an overcoat system that continues to stand the test of time. The intricate process involved a 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝟭𝟱 primer, 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝟭𝟯𝟯 𝗛𝗕, a urethane intermediate, and a 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝘅𝗮𝗻𝗲 𝟵𝟱𝟬 fluorourethane finish. The team carried 1,400 gallons of paint up and down stairs, restoring our famous landmark inch by inch.

Today, the Capitol stands proud, a testament to the products used and the dedicated craftsmanship that went into this historic project. ⭐

The SCP team recently helped a customer update the coating structure of a fuel tank to better climatize it for the harsh temperatures experienced during winter and summer months. This tank is located in a power plant and provides vital fuel needed in emergencies, so its protection and proper functionality are paramount.

Our friends at Axis Industries started by testing the viability of Carboline Carboguard 890 at three different sites around the tank (pictured), each with varying levels of surface preparation. Once the test sites at the base, midlevel, and roof were set, the next step was a "pull test," which was performed to see how well the coatings adhered to the tank with varying levels of surface preparation using increasing PSI pressure. The PosiTest AT-A by DeFelsko Corporation was used for this part of the process.

A few weeks ago, we explained what an overcoat is and how it can save you a fortune by lowering your required asset maintenance needs. Today, we'd like to share an overcoat project done on a jet fuel tank using Carboline Rustbond, Carbomastic 615, and Carbothane 134 HG.

The tank's appearance was a problem for the neighborhood, along with dust contamination for the residents, making abrasive blasting a non-solution. The original coating was stained, with dark marks covering most of the tank. The contractor used a water blast at 3000-4000 psi for surface preparation in lieu of abrasive blasting. The Carboline coating system covered the unsightly tank, offering a more pleasant appearance, and the client was very satisfied with the outcome.

Specialty Coating Products (SCP) is excited to introduce Max Pedraza, who joined our team in April as a Sales Support Specialist. He is new to the industrial coating industry. Max brings customer service experience to our team gained during his time as a consumer advisor for the state of Vermont Attorney General's office, Solar Sales Manager and Energy Consultant for Senga Energy.

Max's role at SCP is customer and project-focused. This includes product demonstrations, site visits, pricing customers, and maintaining relationships with both vendors and contractors. Specifically, Max is part of the project tracking team, including SCP and Carboline personnel. SCP's mission includes discovering projects during the design phase so we can share this market intelligence with our loyal contractors and fabricators. Max takes pride in getting quality leads in the right, hard-working hands. In addition to sales support, Max assists with the operations department.

When asked about his goals, Max commented, "I'd like to help drive sales of our Specialty Coating Products to a larger market in a manner that can be self-sustaining for consistent and quality business. I'd also like to help set up an online portal for our customers to order what they need without calling or physically visiting our store!"
