This week, Freedom House residents enjoyed their own Cowboy Breakfast. Residents and staff wore their finest boots, hats, and jeans, and they even helped the tacos settle with some good old fashioned two-steppin' and line dancin'. We love having a boot-scootin' good time here!!

Freedom House residents had a BLAST watching the Super Bowl together and enjoying some non-alcoholic beer and traditional snacks! Our residents love doing familiar things, and we are always sure to incorporate fun just like this into our regular programming. Cheers to a good time!

Residents made their own name plates, using whichever nickname they preferred, to hang outside their doors or sport on their walkers or wheelchairs. Each picked their own color, and staff printed their names with a Cricut Maker, giving it an extra special flair. What a fun way to spice up the new year!

Happy New Year from Freedom House!! We of course celebrated in style with balloons, props, and a big countdown. There were even some festive fruit cookies for the residents to enjoy!

We hope everyone has had a wonderful new year thus far -- we know we are!

This holiday season, Blue Skies employees, including those at Freedom House, were given a holiday bonus as a thanks for their hard work. Residents also donated to an employee appreciation fund for our hourly employees: nurse aids, housekeeping, front desk, maintenance, and dining employees to name a few. Overall, it was a joyous occasion, and we're proud to show our employees how much we appreciate them!

The John Jay High School, San Antonio, Texas Orchestra members visited Freedom House for a holiday performance for our residents. Music is one way we can reach even our most distant residents, giving them energy to tap their toes, clap, and sometimes even dance. Thank you to these young people for sharing their gifts!

Santa visited Freedom House this Christmas, bringing joy and gifts to our residents and staff alike! We hope everyone in our Freedom House family had a very Merry Christmas and happy holidays!!

Check out our new partnership in our daycare facility!

We are so incredibly excited for our daycare program to join forces with Pre-K 4 SA to become a Texas Rising Star Accredited school! Located in Freedom House, our Alzheimer's Care and Research Center, our Child Care Center is already unique as it includes regular programing with the seniors in our care. Now, our teachers will receive training for a Child Development Associates (CDA) certification, and Pre-K 4 SA will help us become a 4-star Texas Rising Star Accredited Center.

The list of benefits for all involved are limitless, and we are proud and grateful to welcome such wonderful partners to Blue Skies. Bravo to all involved, especially Child Care Center Director JJ Bryant!!

TBT to Thanksgiving at Freedom House!! Our Thanksgiving Dinner included our residents and their family members, and our staff joined the festivities as well. Freedom House is one big family, and we love celebrating together!

Thank you to our supporters for making the work we do possible!! We were so happy to give you a tour of our residents' home.

Residents at The Mission gathered for Veterans Day, and those who served were honored with special pins acknowledging their service while others received flag pins. One resident shared his memories of his days in the service, and an entertainer led the group in patriotic songs while pastries were served.

We at Freedom House are so blessed to serve so many veterans within our walls. Our staff took those who were able to the Veterans Day events here on campus, allowing them to share in the traditions they are used to celebrating. Happy Veterans Day to all!!

Over the weekend, Blue Skies of Texas hosted its 3rd annual Walk to End Alzheimer's on our campus. The walk started and ended in front of Freedom House, and our residents joined the party, which included not just walking, but dancing!! We loved seeing so many smiling faces from our community (staff, residents, and pups) on a Saturday morning!

Every other Friday during good weather, residents enjoy a nice stroll to the gazebo by the pond on our beautiful Blue Skies of Texas West Campus. Those who are not mobile are assisted by staff, and sometimes loved ones join the fun, too. On these cool fall mornings, it's a real treat for our whole Freedom House family!

Sometimes the most comforting things are the most familiar. This resident loves her baby, and she watches baby videos while comforting her own. It's her favorite pastime, so staff make sure she gets the individualized care she needs.

Let's recognize our Employees of the Quarter: Marie Vasquez, a Certified Nurse Aid in Hospice, and Maria Balderas, a Licensed Nurse and our Weekend Supervisor. Our residents as Freedom House need care every day, and we're thankful to Maria for holding down the fort on the weekends. We are also proud of Marie, who was trained through our own CNA program at Blue Skies of Texas and is now doing an exemplary job!!

Congratulations to Cindy Yanez for FORTY YEARS of service at Blue Skies of Texas!! Cindy has been at Freedom House since its creation over 20 years ago, and she finds here work in memory care to be her calling.

If you've had any experiences with Freedom House, you know Cindy is the life blood of that loving space, Give her some well-deserved recognition when you see her next!

To help encourage our residents to drink more water during the summer heat, our team set up decorating stations so each resident could decorate their own water bottle. It was a fun activity and served a greater purpose -- all around another innovative idea by our staff!

We love creating interactive activities for residents in all levels of care, and the parachute is one that works well across the board! Paired with some rock n' roll music, what could be more fun?

One activity our ladies love is trying on new makeup. It's something familiar but new, and it engages their creativity and dexterity. Our lovely ladies feel beautiful and special, and that's the real beauty of this activity!

Our residents find peace and joy doing the activities that were once part of their routine many years ago. For some that means "chores" like laundry while for others it's going to work. Our staff set up stations for our residents to perform the tasks that make them feel useful and whole, giving them the best possible quality of life.
