We will be closed from the 1st to the 5th of July, and returning on Monday the 8th. We wish you all a wonderful 4th of July with your family and friends! 😃
It was Dr. Peña's turn to be in Houston 😃 This past weekend, she attended the NuSmile workshop, to learn about their brand new BioFlx pediatric crowns, and other new biocompatible materials and tech. Always Learning! 🙌 NuSmile
Faith, one of our hygienists, spent the weekend in Houston attending the IABDM Biological Dental Hygiene Intensive Workshop. She learned the latest knowledge and techniques in holistic dental hygiene care! 😃😃

One of my favorite things about my practice is watching the kids grow. - Dr. P ☺️
Dr. Gonzalez learned how to do gingival grafts from the amazing Dr. Sculean, who is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Periodontology, and Executive Director of the School of Dental Medicine, University of Bern, Switzerland.
Our little patient had severe crowding and his two upper front teeth were in crossbite. Dr. Peña first expanded his upper & lower jaws with simple removable appliances, then she used another appliance to fix his crossbite. He has improved so much! It brings us so much joy to help our kiddos! 😄

Happy Veteran's Day!
Dear friends,
Wholesome Dentistry will be closed for Thanksgiving on November 23rd and 24th. We will also be closed for Christmas break from Monday 26th through January 1st. We will resume regular business hours on Monday, January 2nd.
Thank you all so very much for supporting our practice and allowing us to serve our community for one more year. God Bless all of you! 🙏✨
Our office will be closed on Monday the 4th, and resume normal business hours on Tuesday. Have a good one!
I love doing what I do❤️
Did you know amalgam fillings are 50% mercury? When they are drilled out, they release it in the fumes. At Wholesome Dentistry, we are highly trained to remove amalgam fillings safely. 👍
Both Dr. Peña and Dr. Gonzalez are trained to remove amalgam fillings correctly, in order to minimize exposure to mercury.

The Beginning of the End for Mercury in Dentistry We are witnessing the beginning of the end for the use of mercury in dentistry worldwide, following two monumental advancements.
Some patients need a tooth extracted, but do not want a bridge or an implant. We offer beautiful flexible partials that fill the space nicely and look natural. 😁🦷
Dr. Gonzalez received training last week in Colorado on how to place CeraRoot Ceramic Implants! We will soon have even more holistic options for replacing teeth.
Dr. Gonzalez with his class instructors: Dr. Anna, Dr. Carmen Burke and Dr. Xavi Oliva; and having dinner with the doctors in the group.
Does it really matter where you get that crown you've been needing? Yes it does. Look at this x-ray. The crown on the bottom molar, (the one with a root canal) is an older crown, that was done years ago at a different office. It will need to be replaced.
Now look at the crown on the top molar. That was done at our office recently because the tooth had fractured. Notice how beautiful the fit of the crown to the tooth is. We strive to do our very best! 😊
We are still closed due to bad weather, power outages, internet connectivity issues, slippery roads, and so on. We are planning to be open again on Monday 22nd. Please consider your appointment for this week canceled, and please call us to reschedule next week. Remember you can text us to 210 344-2384 if you need us.
Thank you for understanding. Stay safe and warm!
Last week was my birthday. I got lots of love from my family and friends. I had to share a picture of the cake my Wholesome Team got me 😋 I truly have the best staff! - Dr. P
Hello everyone! We will be seeing patients this week and next, up until Wednesday the 23rd, then we will be closing to spend the holidays with our families. We will be back in the office on Monday January 4th. If you have any dental concerns, please call us now so that we can see you before we go on vacation :-) 210 344-2384. This has been a tough year...we send you all a big, big hug. Thank you and God Bless!
Hi everyone! We are open, and we are also seeing patients for routine cleanings. We are working with a smaller crew, so we appreciate your patience. We have been in the process of calling everyone back that had to be rescheduled due to the Covid-19 shutdown. If we haven't reached you, please give us a call. If we don't answer, leave us a message or a text, and we will get back to you as soon as we can. This is our phone number, and it is text friendly: 210 344-2384. One more thing... thank you for hanging in there. This hasn't been easy on anyone. We are grateful we are still in business.
Hello everyone! We are so excited to be opening again! We are doing so slowly, at a limited capacity so that we have a low number of people in the office. We will start doing routine cleanings the first week of June. Until then, any dental cleaning appointments are considered cancelled, but we will be reaching out to you to reschedule. We miss you all! See you soon!
Hello everyone! I hope all of you are healthy and safe. We continue to be closed, but are available to see patients with severe emergencies. If you are experiencing a dental emergency, you can send us a message to this page, or text us to our office number 210 344-2384. We see texts quicker than we hear voicemails, so if you need us, send us a text.
It looks like the governor is going to allow us to open our practices again after May 8th, so we are looking at a probable opening day of Monday, May 11th. I will continue giving updates on this page. Because we are a biological dentistry office, we already had respirators, big air vacuums, special air filters, ozone to disinfect, etc, so you can feel safe when coming in for your appointment. You can read more about how we keep everything extremely clean on my previous post.
We sure do miss our patients, and we hope to see you soon!
We have an update for you:
Dear patients,
I will be posting updates on this page, since we are playing each week by ear, according to the recommendations of the authorities, and the health departments. We want to keep our patients and our families safe, and we want to continue to do our part to help stop the spread of COVID-19. For that reason, we will be open for emergency or urgent care only. We have taken healthcare universal precautions to a whole new level, and I would like to share with you what we are doing.
We have spread out appointments in order to reduce social interaction. We will now be open for urgent care Monday through Saturday, and will be staggering the patients so there is never more than 1 patient (and their caretaker), at a time in the waiting room. Our own team is working on a rotating basis, so there is never more than 6 people in the office. At the moment, we are not doing routine dental cleanings. We will hopefully resume routine care in a few weeks, when the worst is over, and when the authorities have made sure our healthcare workers in the front lines have enough personal protection equipment.
Before the appointment:
Any patient that needs to be seen will be prescreened by a team member with a few questions regarding travel and health history. If you need to be rescheduled, we will ask that you wait 14 days before we can reschedule again.
We ask that you do your part in keeping everyone safe by staying home if you are sick. We will understand, and you will not be charged anything for rescheduling, promise. We also ask that only the patient being checked come to the appointment, or if it is a child, the child and their caretaker.
Upon arrival:
Please stay in your car, and let us know when you arrive by text or phone call (210 344-2384).
A team member will come out to your car, ask you a few questions and take your temperature.
Once inside the practice:
We have taken out all the magazines, toys, coffee, and cups that were in the waiting area. Don’t worry, we will bring back all that cozy stuff once this period of hardship is over.
We will ask that you wash your hands with soap and water in the restroom that is in the waiting room.
When you are seated in the dental chair, you will be given a pre-procedure rinse, either a 1% hydrogen peroxide rinse, or ozonated water (medical grade ozone kills a multitude of bacteria and viruses).
We are trying hard to avoid any procedures that involve producing aerosols, but if it must be done to an emergency, we have a huge vacuum called an AirDentVac (same one we use for amalgam removals), that we will use to vacuum the stuff in the air. High volume suction will be right next to the patient’s mouth.
We may also use a rubber dam to reduce splatter and aerosols.
Because we have been removing amalgam smartly for several years, we are very used to wearing respirators, and will wear them if needed, together with all the rest of our protective equipment.
What our team members are doing:
We wipe, and wipe, and wipe! We wipe door handles, indoor and outdoor, surfaces, chairs, counters, etc, several times a day. Our sterilization equipment is the best in the market and gets maintained very regularly.
We generate ozone and use it to purify the air in our building.
We use ozonated water in our water lines to keep very clean water for procedures.
We ourselves, take our temperature, and are very diligent about practicing social distancing when not working, and not one of us would come to the office if we were sick.
If you are not sure if your dental issue warrants an office visit, give us a call. Dr. Peña and Dr. Gonzalez have been able to resolve many issues before with just a text with a picture of the area of concern to the office. 210 344-2384.
These are tough times for the world, but it will be over soon. It will change us forever, hopefully into better people. We send you virtual hugs, and we join you in prayers to our Creator. Thank you for your understanding. Keep checking our page for updates.

Home • Wholesome Dentistry At Wholesome Dentistry, we hope to establish a relationship with you, so that together, we can help you keep your teeth and gums as healthy as possible.
IMPORTANT NOTICE TO PATIENTS
In order to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, we will be closed the week of March 16.
If you have an appointment at Wholesome Dentistry for this coming week, the appointment is canceled and we will work with you to reschedule it. We are now restricting treatment to urgent or emergency care for this week only.
The following are examples of urgent need:
* Severe toothache pain (not just a twinge)
* Swelling of your gums, face, or neck
* Bleeding in your mouth that does not stop
* Infection or a substantial risk of it
* Trauma (such as a broken tooth)
If you do require urgent care, please call (802) 962-2859, or send a message to our Wholesome Dentistry page.
All other patients should check with Wholesome Dentistry about rescheduling their visit. We will be answering the phones on Monday and Wednesday.
In addition, we may ask you a few questions when making any future appointments until further notice. These may include the following:
1. Do you have a fever or have experienced fever within the past 14 days?
2. Have you experienced a recent onset of respiratory problems such as cough or difficulty breathing in the past 14 days?
3. Have you traveled recently to areas of high risk, such as Wuhan City, or Italy?
4. Have you come into contact with a patient with confirmed COVID-2019?
We still want and appreciate you as our patient if you answer yes to any of these, we just have to wait for 14 days after exposure in order to schedule you again.☺️
We regret that we must restrict our patient care this way. In doing this, we will safeguard the health and safety of our patients, our care providers, and the whole community. We hope you understand, and we thank you for your cooperation. Let’s flatten the curve! Together we will prevail!
Excellent article with very useful information. I would like to add though, that I am completely okay with giving a few low doses of Motrin to someone with a high fever. Not with the goal of completely reducing the fever, because it is best to keep the body inhospitable for the virus, but just enough so the patient can get some sleep in order to heal faster.
