Travis Park Church

We are mission-minded and spirit-driven Reconciling United Methodists; we welcome and accept ALL.

Travis Park Church is a progressive and historic Reconciling United Methodist Congregation, grounded in both history and vision. Organized as a church in 1846, we began worshipping at this site 20 years later at the heart of downtown. We are a church that embraces the value of stories: in them we can find truth, meaning, hope and connection with God and with one another. Travis Park Church is affi

Today was a great day at VBS! The children sang around a “fire” light, made s’mores, learned about science, and took home goody bags full of special crafts and camp treasures! Tomorrow we head to the Doseum!!!

Congratulations to our organist Yi-Hsin Yu! Yi-Hsin passed her American citizenship interview last week and is an American citizen now! The Sanctuary Choir surprise-serenaded her on Sunday morning before worship with "America the Beautiful." Yi-Hsin has been playing at Travis Park Church since March of 2022. She grew up and completed her education in Taiwan; she has a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from the National Taiwan Normal University, majoring in Piano Performance.

Six days a week Chef Robbie cooks a meal in the Travis Park Church kitchen with his team made up of staff and volunteers. Monday through Friday they load the Corazon van and serve food (more volunteers) at the Corazon Day Center at Grace Lutheran Church. Sunday mornings we open the doors at 8am to serve breakfast with even more volunteers!

Today the children at VBS learned how to find the presence of a base using an acid. Megan taught them how to find the rocks with calcium carbonate in them by dropping them in vinegar and looking for bubbles - followed by making baking soda and vinegar volcanoes!

This Sunday at 4pm!!! 🎵

We are happy to welcome Ta Wei to the stage for Classic Moments. Get your tickets at alamocityarts.org for June 9th at 4 PM, Travis Park Church

Pacific Northwest-based pianist Ta Wei Tsai enjoys a multifaceted career as a musician. Equally comfortable as a soloist and a collaborator, Ta Wei has performed in Europe and Asia, as well as some of the most prestigious stages in the U.S., such as Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Sarasota Opera House, to name a few.
Trained as a classical pianist at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, Maryland, Ta Wei has since evolved into a fierce advocate for the accessibility of music education for today’s youth. Whether it’s coaching young singers through work as a teaching artist with the Seattle Opera, or sitting alongside students on the floor in public school music classes, Ta Wei truly believes in music education as a way of investing in the well-being of our communities, and a way for our communities to stay connected with the world we live in.

This Special Sunday is a denomination wide celebration intended to raise awareness that even in a world plagued by war and terror, violence and destruction, people of faith have a clear call to build peace with justice. As United Methodists, our yearning for peace must move us to act.

The United Methodist Social Principles call us to love our enemies, seek justice, and serve as reconcilers of conflict. We insist that the first moral duty of all nations is to work together to resolve by peaceful means every dispute that arises between or among them.

Fifty percent of the funds collected on Peace with Justice Sunday remain in the Annual Conference to develop and strengthen social justice ministries within the local conference. Fifty percent of the donations collected fund national and international peacemaking ministries and grants.

Checks to give "above and beyond" regular giving should be made out to Travis Park Church with the memo "Special Sunday" and we will submit a check from the congregation to the UMC.

Our Youth are hard at work making calls to ask our members to invest in the future by “Purchasing Stock” and making a special donation to Emmaus Youth Choir!

Stock Sales are a yearly tradition and are happening through the end of May! You may be getting a phone call from one of the Emmaus Youth Choir members asking if you would like to buy stock in the youth choir. It’s $10/stock, so if you buy 5 stocks that would be $50. Your donations are tax deductible and will show up on your giving statement.

The youth will be calling between 5-7pm on Wednesdays from the church phone, so don’t screen their calls!

The Emmaus Youth Choir has been working hard with the adult choir to be incredible representatives of Travis Park Church in the world, and you have the opportunity to invest in the future of this church!

Today the Congregation held a Church Conference to consider and vote on moving forward with Phase 1 of Sanctuary restoration. Brock Curry read an excerpt from the book, We Finish to Begin…citing a moment from our church history when the congregation chose not only to restore the church after devastation, but also moved to expand beyond. On Pentecost Sunday 2024, the vote was a unanimous yes. Holy Spirit is stirring here, friends. 🔥May our building and our people continue to serve the mission of creating disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

Today was the first Practical Vision Workshop for Travis Park Church, where we cast a vision for 1-3 years into the future: what do we want to see happen as a result of the actions we take? We will share out the beginning stages of this vision - via the email newsletter - with the congregation and we will meet again sometime after Annual Conference to continue the conversation. Date TBD! Thank you to all who showed up and lended their voices today!

What an happy photo from the Sunday Corazon San Antonio Volunteer Prayer Huddle with Pastor Edie! ❤️❤️ Volunteers begin to flow through the doors of Travis Park Church every Sunday morning at 7am to cook breakfast and prepare coffee and other services for our friends. Before the doors open for all at 8am, we gather to pray for all those that may enter through our doors may experience the abundant love of God.

We are thankful for the many hands that serve on Sunday mornings and throughout the week. If you've been looking for your sign to start volunteering, here it is!

A final Table Devotion from Pastor Edie...
When people visit Travis Park United Methodist Church, they often mention that they sense a certain spirit of joy and welcome.
As the church grows, many of us are mindful that it is a delicate and intangible gift. It’s not something we can control; it is the Spirit of the living God being expressed.
We celebrate Pentecost on May 19th. We’ll wear red and there will be energy, joy, and gratitude. As we continue growing, I hope we hold onto a sense of wonder at the beauty of coming together in connection.
The question becomes, “Who am I in light of this Spirit?”
Each of is challenged to be intentional with allowing that Spirit to shape how we live in community with people who are not like us.
