Kitchens with no top cabinets...
The future of kitchens are upon us. Some say it is minimalism that is driving us to these designs. While others will say it is "elegance". Breaking traditional ideas will be moving us into 2021.
If 2020 is the hindsight year. Then 2021 we will begin to see a dramatic change in how we live and experience our dwellings.
Who knows perhaps the island will be replaced by a kitchen table and that idea came from the early 1900's. In addition, the kitchen in the early 1900's did not have top wall cabinets.

Closets...
Keeping life simple is really understanding the impact of minimalism and organization. Decluttering a space is much like uncluttering the mind; in the beginning it is a challenge yet once you begin to move forward with the idea of how you want to live, then you become free.
Onething needs to happen before a closet renovation. Evaluate the contents you want to keep.

Woodworking Network recently named our own Bill French as one of the 2020 Market Leaders. This speaks volumes of his leadership. Bill has been in the building industry for more than 20 years, but has only been in the cabinetry business for just over a year. He is honored by this acknowledgement and we are blessed to have him at the helm of Wood-Mode! https://bit.ly/379N190

A Chef's Dream Kitchen High-end luxury meets ultimate function in this family-friendly kitchen designed by Peter Salerno.
2000 as we turned over in numbers "the third millennium", Gene Philipps was now moving full speed into being a kitchen designer, while having a history with building. He now gets to be an artist, and be apart of the main room of peoples homes and that is the "Kitchen".
The 2000's focused on the "island" while no kitchen is meant to be an island. The island became the gathering place for the home and open floor plans and full connection living spaces began. 20 years later the island still remains a key feature in many kitchens across the U.S.
In the 1990's Gene Philipps would have been around 57 and moving out of a lifetime career in construction and building jails. He was looking to the future and it would not be long now before he would place his foot into designing kitchens.
Gene did his drawings by hand. Today many kitchen designers use computer programs and they take the designs they draw and place those drawings into a program to create more accuracy when ordering cabinets.
Below is a 1990's style kitchen. Usually light oak cabinets and light countertops were the trend. The 1990's focused on people being in the kitchen and the island really began to take hold as the gathering place in the home.
Looking for an interesting "Condo" kitchen. This is a design from Japan.

High-gloss cabinets punctuate this contemporary design. While this kitchen has lots of neutrals the high-gloss cabinets give dimension and richness to the experience. Bringing in two different era's of kitchen history, the 1960's and 1980's and voilà you now are in the 2020's.
Continuing our travel through the decades of kitchens in honor of Gene Philipps we now move into the 1980's.
While earth tones and browns came into the kitchen in the late 1970's. In the 1980's textured cabinets made their appearance.
The 1980's color was beige and this is when we began to see mostly u-shaped kitchens and track lighting.
Walking through the decades of Founder Gene Philipps life through kitchen trends..
Now we enter the 1970's
A kitchen was all about the backsplash. Gorgeous and colorful tiles were arranged to frame kitchen sinks and appliances. Glass and metal tiles were popular choices for kitchen backsplash materials. Golden yellow, avocado green, silver, burnt orange, and purple were common color choices.
After the 1960's and moving into the 1970's art themed kitchens became the trend.

As we travel through the decades honoring the founder of Cabinetry Designs, Gene Philipps we now move into the 1960's.
This would have place him around 18 years old and in the beginning of a revolution and change in politics, music and society around the world. Kitchens really began to change in the 1960's with larger refrigerators and appliances that were more innovative. As women were beginning their migration into the workforce, while raising a family, the conversations in the kitchen was about efficiency while still embracing color that carried over from the 1950's.

Mid 1950's kitchens...
To continue to celebrate Gene Philipps life and kitchen designs through the years here is a kitchen design from 1955...which had wall refrigerators.
To salute and celebrate the kitchen designs through the decades of Gene Philipps life...we are now moving into the 1950's and these were the colors of the kitchens.
1950 – Kitchen Colors
Petal Pink.
Turquoise Green.
Stratford Yellow.
Canary Yellow.
Cadet Blue.
Woodtone Brown.
Sherwood Green.
..and to note some visionaries in the design world are speculating that we will be adding more color to our kitchens in 2021. Color influences feelings. Especially in a kitchen.
