There are some people who, when they enter your life, leave an imprint so deep that even time can’t erase it. Quentin Gres, known here as Gres, was one of those rare souls.

This past Monday October 14, 2024 we lost one of our long time employees. Today, we find ourselves broken, struggling to understand how someone who gave so much could be taken so soon. As we gather to remember him, words seem inadequate to express the profound loss we feel. Gres wasn’t just a co-worker or a friend—he was the embodiment of hope, strength, and a kind of quiet courage that changed every life he touched.

To say Gres was resilient doesn’t even scratch the surface. For 25 years he worked for us a part of the special needs community from Easter Seals. We all knew the struggles he faced—the physical and mental challenges that made every day a battle most of us could never imagine. But to Gres, these obstacles weren’t walls; they were hurdles they cleared with grace and quiet strength. He never asked for pity, never wanted sympathy. Instead, he gave us the strength to carry on, lifting us when we didn’t even know we needed lifting. He showed us that no matter how heavy the burden, you can still find joy—still find reasons to smile, even through the pain.

And, oh, how Gres loved to smile, especially when talking about the things that brought him joy. We could always count on him for one thing: come rain or shine, win or lose, he was fiercely loyal to the San Antonio Spurs and the Dallas Cowboys. If the Spurs pulled off a last-minute win or if the Cowboys secured a much-needed victory, Gres would light up like a kid on Christmas morning. The way his eyes would shine, the pure passion in his voice—it was contagious. Even if you weren’t a fan, you couldn’t help but get caught up in his love for those teams. He’d talk about the Spurs' glory days, about George Gervin, Tim Duncan, David Robinson and Sean Elliott’s legendary runs, and he’d reminisce about Cowboys’ plays like he was recounting some epic tale. It was never just a game to him—it was a lifeline, a connection to something bigger, something that brought him pure, unfiltered happiness in a life filled with so much struggle.

I’ll never forget the Mondays when the Cowboys lost. He would come in, his head down, shaking it with a playful sigh, and say, “Next year”…. He said it every season, and he meant it every time. That hope, that belief in a better tomorrow, wasn’t just for his teams—it was how he lived his life. No matter what life threw at him, no matter how hard it got, Gres always had hope. He believed that good things were always around the corner, and that if you just held on long enough, brighter days would come.

And then there was his love for the wrestler “The Undertaker”. Gres talked about him like he was more than just a wrestler—like he was a symbol of strength, someone who never stayed down, no matter how many times life knocked him over. To Gres, The Undertaker wasn’t just a character on TV; he was a reflection of their own quiet resilience. Like The Undertaker, Gres faced life’s battles with an unshakable determination. He may not have had the ability to express it in words, but in every gesture, every action, he showed us what true strength really looked like.

Rest in peace, Gres. You may not have been able to read the words we put together for you, but you understood the things that really mattered. You understood us. And we will carry that understanding with us for the rest of our lives. We’ll root for the Spurs and the Cowboys, just like you would’ve wanted. We’ll remember your love for The Undertaker and your strength, just like his, to keep going no matter what.

You were our rock, our silent hero, and we’ll never forget you. Thank you for everything. We love you, and we miss you. Rest easy, dear friend. You were more than we could have ever asked for, and you will live in our hearts forever.

We’ll miss you forever, BIG GUY.
