Sisters of the Holy Spirit and Mary Immaculate
We have been in ministry for the past 136 years in the United States and Mexico.
This year we celebrate 36 years living and ministering in the Western Province of Zambia. The Sisters of the Holy Spirit and Mary Immaculate are a Congregation of Apostolic Women Religious founded by Margaret Mary Healy-Murphy in 1893. The spirit of the foundress was one of faith and trust in God and compassion for those in need.
On Friday, June 7, we celebrated the jubilees of eight of our Sisters. What a wonderful, joyful celebration as we rejoiced and gave thanks for and to these women for a total of 535 years of dedicated service.
Celebrating 75 years of commitment and service were Sisters Dorothy Carey, Doloretta Madigan and Carmelita Mulry: celebrating 70 years was sister Carmen Molina; and celebrating 60 years were Sisters Bernie Barrett, Pat Crehan, Peggy Kenny and Genevieve Cunningham.
Thank you Sisters for all the lives you have blessed and all the ways you have been blessed by so many people. As Sister Bernie said in her closing words of thanks, “For all that has been THANKS, for all that will be YES”. In other words, you are not finished yet!!

Today we remember those who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. We also honor the sacrifices of their families. May you continue to be blessed with the peace for which your loved one gave his/her life🙏🙏🕊️🇺🇸
Abundant blessings to all our mothers, to all mothers who follow us on Facebook and to mothers everywhere. May you be abundantly blessed as we celebrate Mother’s Day in the United States today. Thank you mothers for the gift you are. May the blessings you continue to share return to you a hundredfold today and always 🙏😊
This year eight of our Sisters celebrate their Jubilees. They include sisters Bernie Barrett, Peggy Kenny, Genevieve Cunningham and Pat Crehan, celebrating 60th Jubilees; Sisters Carmelita Mulry, Dorothy Carey and Doloretta Madigan (not pictured) celebrate 75th Jubilees; and Sister Carmen Molina celebrates her 70th Jubilee. All of the Sisters are active in ministry - some in prayer ministry, some in Administration, some in volunteer ministry either within the community or with other organizations outside our community.
Congratulations and continued blessings on each one of the Jubilarians 🙏🙏
Today we celebrated the retirement of a long-time amazing employee. Mary Garcia has worked in our elder care facility for over 25 years. During her years of service she has “worn many, many different hats”. Sister Mary Fagan wrote a wonderful poem about the many hats Mary “wore” and artists among us decorated the symbolic hat. Although we’re sad to see Mary go, her farewell was definitely not sad!!😀🙏
On Saturday, March 2, we invited our neighbors to join us at our Motherhouse grounds. The purpose was to have people meet us and each other, and to hear their concerns about elderly living alone, increase in violence, concerns for the safety of their children. . . We didn’t have a big crowd but we had a wonderful gathering and great sharing.
We, the members of the Sisters of the Holy Spirit and Mary Immaculate in San Antonio, Texas, express our unwavering solidarity with Annunciation House, a Catholic organization that accompanies migrants in El Paso, Texas. We are deeply troubled by Texas Attorney General Paxton's decision to target Annunciation House through legal actions, with the goal of shutting it down.
For more than 45 years, Annunciation House has provided hospitality to people seeking safety at the U.S.-Mexico border. Attorney General Paxton's recent actions are an attempt to deter the act of providing care for people in need. Some of the sisters in our Congregation have worked directly with and have supported Annunciation House which provides hospitality to hundreds of people each day by providing food, clothing, and shelter. Most of Annunciation House's guests are fleeing violence and political repression in their home countries. Many are families with young children. Annunciation House's work is rooted in Catholic social teaching, which tells us that we must seek justice in solidarity with the marginalized, "feed the hungry and welcome the stranger" (Matthew 25:35). Attorney General Paxton's actions are an affront, to our Catholic faith tradition and to our call to serve our neighbors.
Annunciation House is a model of service and a beacon of hope for people of faith who put their values into action. Together in one voice, we will continue to loudly proclaim that every person is created in the image of God and deserves safety and respect. We pray that Attorney General Paxton will have a change of heart and work to ensure the dignity of each human person by stopping this attack on Annunciation House.

We celebrate the life of our beloved Sister Eileen Mannion.
February 14, 2024
Rosary begins at 10:00 am cst
Mass begins at 11:00 am cst.
Today we mourn the passing of our dear Sister Eileen Mannion, who slipped away very peacefully into the arms of her Beloved on Saturday afternoon, February 10. We know that God must have said, "well done good and faithful servant, come into the reign of God, prepared for you. . . " Sister Eileen lived a full and beautiful life - mainly as a teacher and principal in schools in Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi. What a gift she was to us, and to all those whose lives she touched during her 72 years of ministry with and for God's people. Her gentle and loving presence radiated everywhere she lived and ministered.
Although her health had declined, we felt her leaving us was much too soon! But we know that we now have another blessed one in Heaven interceding for us.
Our prayers and sympathy go out to all the members of Sister Eileen's family who loved her so dearly, and whom she so dearly loved.

Today, we have one more angel in Heaven as we fondly say our good bye to dear Sister Theresa O'Toole. Although her death was not unexpected, we are very sad to see her leave us. As her health declined over the past several months, Sister Theresa remained very peaceful and had a big smile for everyone who visited her. We will miss that sweet smile. When the Sisters visited her and sang songs, especially hymns to our Blessed Mother, Sister Theresa joined in singing. Her ongoing prayer was her peaceful disposition and her beautiful smile for everyone.
We want to express our sympathy to the O'Toole family and to her many friends who loved her dearly.
May you now rest in Eternal Peace dear Sister Theresa.

Rosary/Sharing & Mass of Christian Burial
********Please bear with us. New Livestream system. Still dealing with audio issues.***********
After spending 70+ years in prayer and service to God's people,
Sister Maura Scarry went home peacefully to God, yesterday afternoon. As with everything she did, Sister Maura created no fuss. She ate her lunch and then went for her daily scheduled nap. One of the Infirmary workers helped her settle in. After about ten minutes the worker returned to check on her, only to find that Sister Maura has slipped away into the arms of her beloved.
We will miss her peaceful, gentle presence and pray that she is now at peace with God, and all of her family members and the Sisters who have gone before her. Please keep Sister Maura and her dear family in your prayers.
Funeral services will be livestreamed as follows:
Saturday, November 18, 10:00 Rosary and sharing
11:00 Mass of Christian Burial

Rosary, Sharing, and Funeral Mass for Sister Evelyn O'Flaherty
We have "one more angel in heaven, one more star in the sky".
On Friday morning Sister Evelyn O'Flaherty slipped into the arms of her beloved, the God she had loved and served faithfully for so many years. Surviving a brain aneurysm 33 years ago, Sister Evelyn carried her cross cheerfully and did everything she was able to do during all those years. She never complained, and she maintained her sense of humor and her love for her place of birth in County Kerry, Ireland.
It seemed like she left a piece of her heart every place she served, especially Lebeau and Kramer/Choctaw in Louisiana and Natchez Mississippi.
Funeral arrangements are as follows:
Monday, June 12 at 4:30p.m. Reception of the body at our Motherhouse chapel, followed by Evening Prayer.
Tuesday, June 13 at 12:00 noon The Rosary and time for sharing followed by the Funeral Mass and burial in the Sisters of the Holy Spirit and Mary Immaculate cemetery in San Antonio, TX.
Thank you Sister Evelyn for teaching all of us the true meaning of patience and long suffering.
May you now Rest in Peace dear Sister.
🙏🙏The Rosary and Funeral Mass will be live streamed on Facebook/hssister on Tuesday🙏🙏
