Quick Tip: Black Buttercream
A few helpful tips to achieve black frosting.
The easiest way to achieve any dark color, including black, would be to start with a chocolate base. Chocolate buttercream uses way less food coloring to achieve darker colors. For an extra black frosting without coloring, use black cocoa instead of your traditional baking cocoa.
Cant use a chocolate buttercream for you cake? That’s okay. You can easily add a few drops of a dark food coloring such as brown, navy or purple first to deepens the color then add in your black until you reach your desired look. It may have a tint of the color you choose so remember not to add too much before adding the black.
I find that when I make any colored frosting it works best if you make it ahead of time to let the colors develop. In this case, it’s much easier to let the black coloring develop at least 2 days.
What food coloring works best? Right now, I’m really loving powdered food coloring, such as the Master Elite line from The Sugar Art. You can also choose an oil based color like Colour Mill or a gel based like Americolor. Normally, liquid colorings you find will definitely change the consistency of the frosting way too much to achiever a darker color.

Cocomelon Birthday Cake for my niece. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

I have some of the most fun with my niece and nephews birthday cakes. Mostly because I get to do anything I want. I decided to jump out of my comfort zone for this one and it’s not my favorite but it definitely has some potential! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
