OLYMPIAN FENCING CLUB

Thanks to everyone who came out to our open house today! If you couldn’t make it, feel free to stop by the club any week night after 5pm to observe a class and speak to one of our coaches about our programs.

Do you have sturdy knees? One of the trends in preparation (and the closing action) I’ve seen is the use of the Z-Axis.

The Z-Axis is a knee murderer, but in preparation (and the close), it’s becoming more commonplace with the athletically gifted fencers to drop below the opponent’s tip to displace their own target, threaten below the guard, and quickly get out to not leave oneself subjected to a punishment touch/attack in preparation.

Make use of all three axes to find optimal positioning for a touch! (Especially the Y axis)

Farewell Courtney! Last week was Coach Courtney’s final week coaching at OFC. Her talent and wealth of experience helped bring our fencers to the next level this season. Best of luck taking over in Albuquerque, NM. You’ll do great and they’re lucky to have you!

Congrats Gene on 8th place in Y12 Men’s Epee! Gene started off 3-2 in pools but fought hard and smart all day. Great job!

Congrats Zeph on 6th place in Div 2 Men’s Epee. Zeph gave everything he had and won some great bouts. Way to go!

Big congrats to June Hurme on her Bronze Medal finish and to Cathy Kelley on 11th place in Vet 70 women’s epee and earning her spot on the Vet World Team! Next stop, Dubai in October for Vet World Championships! It also helped that both June and Cathy had grandchildren there cheering them on!
