Day 3 of the CCUPCA Executive Seminar and Conference comes to an end. This is Chief Jesse Toscano, a new member of CCUPCA! His experience in serving in a public safety capacity span over two decades, with the Stockton Police Department and the San Jose Evergreen Community College Police Department as a Lieutenant. Jesse served as a K12 Police Chief for The San Jose Unified School District for 19 years. He also worked with the Santa Clara Police Department for 6 years working Super Bowl 50. Chief Toscano is a National Emergency Management Advanced Academy Graduate through FEMA. More recently, he was Director of Campus Public Safety at North Orange County Community College District and is currently the Chief of School Safety at Norwalk-La Mirada Unified School District Jesse is happily married to Carmen Padilla, he’s. father of four adult children and resides in Ventura County! Welcome aboard, Chief!
We’re featuring Lt Gary Mejia, CCUPCA’s Advisor-at-Large! Gary started his law enforcement career with the Ventura County Sheriff’s department in 1979. In 1987, he joined the Clovis Police Department in the central valley. Retiring in 2004 to pursue graduate studies, Gary would return to law enforcement in the form of Chief of of Campus Safety at Fresno Pacific University (FPU). In the spring of 2015, Gary became Chief of Campus Safety at Theological Seminary (FTS) in Pasadena California. During his 32 years in law enforcement, Gary was a highly decorated officer receiving numerous awards and citations. The highlights of his career are two lifesaving medals, Medal of Merit, and the highest honor bestowed in law enforcement, the Medal of Valor. Gary is a past Tactical Instructor on the Clovis Police Department SWAT team, as well as leading the department’s Major Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team until retiring. Gary is currently Lieutenant with the State Center Community College Police Department. Gary continues to assist CCUPCA with our spring and fall workshops and conferences through his extensive knowledge and experience! Way to go, brother!!!
Shout out to CCUPCA’s 2nd Vice President Nina Jamsen!!👏🏽👏🏽. Nina had a 33 year career with the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department, being the first female with the agency to become a Defensive Tactics and Use of Force Expert! She was also Chief of Police for the contracted cities of Grand Terrace and Loma Linda. Nina was also Police Chief with Cal State San Bernardino PD for 6 years! And because she’s Finnish-American, she’s fluent in Finnish!! Way to go Wonder Woman!!!👏🏽👏🏽🏆🥇🎉🎉💪🏼💪🏼
Our newest CCUPCA Board member-at-large is Chief McQueen (no not that Steve McQueen but close). Steve is current Chief of Campus Safety at Otis College of Art and Design in LA. He has 10 years in public safety in the higher educational setting and 16 year wirh State and Federal Military Police as an officer and Sergeant. Thanks for your service, Steve! He started his career as a cadet with San Mateo SO, a police officer with Los Altos PD, the Santa Clara Co SO, Sgt with Foothill-De Anza College PD, and ultimately their Chief. Ron is now happily retired! Well done on your career, Ron!!
