Salicinium is a plant extract that is very natural. It has been used for years in the fight against cancer. It is one of the complex sugar molecules. Glycolysis is a natural phase of both aerobic and anaerobic respiration. Salicinium is a molecule that was engineered to take advantage of the vulnerability of sick cells (cells infected w bacteria, virus, parasites, fungi, candida, and cancer) because they make energy in an anaerobic manner without the use of mitochondria. Dr. Otto Warburg won a Nobel prize for his work in evaluating the anaerobic process of metabolism these cells utilize.
Anaerobic cells only use glucose for an energy substance therefore the molecule salicinium when combined and joined by a hydrogen molecule is readily taken up by all sick cells but because of its size it cannot enter a normal cell. Once the molecule is taken in the glucose gets removed then goes to the energy cycle, the benzyl ring with the hydrogen is able to donate a hydrogen in the midst of the anabolic process thus prevent any net production of the ATP. Adenosine 5’-triphosphate, or ATP, is an energy unit thus the salicinium can starve a sick sell which will result in its ability to produce nagalase (n-acetylgactosaminidase) -This will result in uncloaking the cell making it more vulnerable to the immune system and will also block new blood vessel formation which will prevent new nutrients entering the cell. All of these actions can result in cell starvation and cell death. Furthermore, a little known fact is the benzyl ring (which comes in nature from the bog plant) has been studied by a Japanese researcher who found there is a hub protein called (14-3-3) that functions as an essential broker for changes in cell surface receptors that result in transduction to pathways of immortality, rapid cell division, and angiogenesis— 14-3-3 results in blocking of more than 14 of these known pathways thus the metabolic effects of salicinium in cancer go far beyond simple cytotoxicity.

Basic research shows that mistletoe extracts may stimulate the immune system to fight cancer. Studies in humans show that mistletoe treatment may improve symptoms and reduce side effects of cancer treatments. A few studies indicate it may also have some effects on survival. The unique action of mistletoe is twofold.
1) It stimulates the number or production and function of all the immune cells.
2) This may be the most important aspect of mistletoe- it is DNA protective to a normal cell that is in the presence of a CTC (Circulating Tumor Cell) or CSC (Cancer Stem Cell). This is important because cancer is a microscopic problem. The use of mistletoe can help prevent a cancer cell from recruiting normal tissue to make a new metastatic tumor.
In America traditional oncologist have started to use mistletoe for patients who are undergoing chemotherapy to help them minimize the side effects of the treatment. We utilize mistletoe in many treatment protocols and have seen remarkable results.

Great walking right across the street! Patients love it.
On we would like to showcase our favorite artist that we have hung around our expanded suite.
Hilma af Klint was a Swedish artist and mystic whose paintings were the first Western abstract art known to the current art community. A considerable body of her abstract work predates the first purely abstract compositions by Kandinsky.

Meet Dr. V
Dr. Virginia Von Schaefer, MD has practiced medicine and surgery for over 25 years. She is now a retired general, vascular and trauma surgeon who has been providing bio-integrative consultations to patients of all ages in a variety of clinical settings. Her passion is utilizing the basic principles of cell biology and biochemistry to solve medical problems. Her focus is to evaluate and treat the whole person, taking into account the mind, body, and spirit connection to restore biochemical balance. Dr. Virginia came to study medicine after her first pregnancy turned out to be a tumor, resulting in a septic delivery of a possibly cancerous growth. The experience of this event opened her eyes to the practice of medicine and motivated her to quit her job, return to school to study science and prepare to go to medical school. To that end, she attended Columbia University undergraduate school and majored in biochemistry and cell biology at the height of new discoveries in cellular anatomy and physiology. She had her first child as a “pre-med” and was the first woman with a child to be accepted to Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons medical school in NYC. Her second child was born during medical school and her next three children were born during internships in both Internal Medicine and Surgery. She completed surgical training at an affiliate of Cornell University in NYC, specializing in Trauma Surgery and came to California in 1994 to complete a Vascular Surgery Fellowship at Harbor UCLA. One year after completing the program she sustained a total spinal cord contusion at C4 C5 and had to stop actively practicing surgery. In the process of her recovery she turned back to her original passion, cell biology and biochemistry. With new inspiration and insight she explored the world of metabolic treatment using principles of biochemistry, endocrinology and nutrition. Dr. Virginia spent three years caring for her best friend and sister who was fighting a late stage leukemia. The experience of sharing her sister’s journey in the conventional treatment system, caring for someone battling cancer, and ultimately losing a loved one to complications of the treatment /immune compromise, impelled Dr. VonSchaefer to return to active medical practice with a special focus on cancer and chronic illness. When not working Dr. V enjoys spending time with her children and three Italian greyhounds, gardening, cooking and writing.
