Wearing this sweater tonight reminds me of my USC college days when I was on the executive board of Chicanos for Progressive Education (CPE) 👊🏽

Looking back at being a full-time USC student working 2 jobs & volunteering my time to my CPE community service, was kind of a lot to take on at a young age. I didn’t even own a car til my last year in college. I got very lil sleep.

But I wouldn’t change my struggling college student days for the world. It taught me that sacrificing & working really hard for that degree would make the obstacles I faced later in life seem a lot easier.

Back then I was on track to pursue my PhD as a McNair Scholar and become an English professor, encouraged by a USC professor that I worked for. I used to proofread his grant proposals & do admin work for his research center while I was a student.

I also minored in Music Industry & interned at an indie label in Beverly Hills. I fell in love with the business side of music & decided not to pursue my PhD. Plus, the astronomical cost of graduate school turned me off from pursuing a PhD.

I have since traded in my books for a notepad & a mic and now we license our songs to labels, music libraries & artists, among many other aspects of the music biz we deal with.
