This article was written in 06'. About 20yrs after the constant search had become a way of life, that I still live today. Very few people over 18yrs old kept skateboarding before skateparks returned. It's normal now, but I never even one time saw someone in their mid 20's on a skateboard. Until we met the dregs crew, but never met any others that were riding every type of hill, and sliding corners like we were.

We have these 3 freshly paved hills, all different and perfect, within a few miles of each other.

We call this one Panics.
First run down a 22mile descent, from the mountains to the ocean.
What downhill is to me...
Nothing like spotting a potentially nice road and turning around. Usually, its not worth it, and a waste of time. But, sometimes that road is 7% grade, for 5 beautiful miles, with perfect pavement, no reflectors, and no cars. Then you get that alone time with your thoughts, and nature, as you walk up in silence, spotting every imperfection, and small pebble. Not sure if it will be too fast. People that don't do this could never understand, because, there is nothing like it. There are no brakes. It's totally letting go. When you are flying down a steep stretch of unknown road, alone, just making it to the bottom is such a mental game. I just smile, and enjoy the moment, in a complete state of focus. It's the greatest ride, and I'm loving every second. When I make it back, I may yell out, YEEAAAHHH!!!!! I did it, again, I made it. F&$k Yeah... then keep driving down the road, looking for the next. Getting old sucks, but the memories are priceless.
Side road off of Chinook Pass. 6.1miles and a really amazing ride. Started walking before sunrise.

one of 3 new FRESHLY PAVED rds near me. This first run, is only the bottom half. It is a total of 4.5 miles!

20miles east of mono lake. It was a super fast straight, with nobody for miles. Didn't see one car.
