In honor of Travis' birthday, we encourage friends and family to donate to the Travis Wilkie Grit and Honor Scholarship, recognizing his stellar commitment to academic and professional excellence.
Travis was a 2010 graduate of Warren-Walker School and a 2018 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy. This scholarship is awarded annually to a 7th grader at Warren-Walker Middle School who exemplifies Travis' spirit.
Just as Travis lived his life and inspired those around him, the recipient of this scholarship embraces challenges head-on with a relentless work ethic. He or she also values integrity, honesty, humility, and respect for self and others.
Max Zandstra (2022) and Natalia Mejia (2023) are the first two award recipients. We hope this scholarship encourages the recipients to continue to be passionate in every facet of their lives.

The School of Young Entrepreneurs Summer Camp held its first camp on the Warren-Walker Middle School campus. 62 campers attended 1, 2, 3, or all 4 weeks; 28 students were from other San Diego schools and 34 campers were from Warren-Walker School.
Thanks to our generous donors, Cynthia Butitta and Steve Montgomery, Hervey Charitable Trust, The University of California, San Diego and The Point Loma Association, we were able to provide a four-week camp, tuition-free. Each morning, students were in a classroom setting learning about financial literacy and how to build a business. After lunch, campers listened to guest speakers and went on field trips. Each Friday, students competed in a pitch competition, similar to Shark Tank, and the winners received prizes. The students had lots of fun, while learning and meeting new friends. We can’t wait for next summer!
The Acton Children’s Business Fair - Businesses Created and Launched by Children
Two of our Warren-Walker Middle School students, Liam Koett and Sophia Fleming, participated in the Acton Children’s Business Fair on Saturday, April 23rd held in La Mesa. Over 40 young entrepreneurs set up booths and sold their products.
Liam’s company, Surf Dog Leash Company, sells handmade paracord leashes in multiple lengths and colors. Sophie displayed her handmade, organic dog biscuits in decorative jars. She also sold dog bandanas and stickers.
Created in 2007 in Austin, Texas, there are now over 1,000 children's business fairs in 342 cities and 16 countries with over 51,000 young entrepreneurs participating.
The Chula Vista Firefighters held their annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 24th; a very popular event, it was held at Mt. San Miguel Park.
The Warren-Walker Promise Foundation supported the event by providing fire helmets for each participant, and Warren-Walker Middle School students volunteered their time to help the children in their activities, including making bunny ears. A great time was had by all.
The Warren-Walker Promise Foundation and the School of Young Entrepreneurs are pleased to announce our partnership with Amavara Sunscreen.
One of the activities at the School of Young Entrepreneurs (SofYE) Summer Camps will be a case study of the sunscreen company, Amavara. The study will include conducting product research and developing a marketing plan:
1. Advertising
2. Competitive analysis
3. Cost analysis
4. Sales promotion
5. Product placement
A San Diego based company, Amavara’s goal is to create a socially responsible, broad spectrum sunscreen that protects from UVA/UVB, thermal and infrared rays, as well as heat, cold and wind. Products are safe for the whole family and the environment because they contain only one active ingredient – non-nano zinc oxide, which is reef safe.
Amavara’s products are hypoallergenic, dermatologist and pediatrician recommended. The products SofYE will study are made in the United States, and packaging is from post consumer recycled plastic. We are excited to provide our students with this unique hands-on opportunity.
Please visit the Amavara website to learn more about these amazing products.

Travis Wilkie's 26th Birthday Fundraiser, organized by Peyton Wilkie In honor of Travis’ 26th birthday this week, we encourage friends and family t… Peyton Wilkie needs your support for Travis Wilkie's 26th Birthday Fundraiser
For the first time in two years and second time ever, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students of Warren-Walker School descended on JA BizTown, a 10,000 sq. ft. mini-city that is run by the students for the day. Students had the full run of 22 shops including NBC 7 News, The Union-Tribune, and newcomer Illumina.
BizTown was abuzz as students rushed to fulfill their job duties and work towards the goal achieving profitability for their businesses. They take on positions ranging from the town mayor to CEO of individual businesses; the students even assume the role of police officer and retail sales. It is required of the students to apply and interview for all of the positions as they would in the adult world. Speeches were given, fines were assessed, and there was even a bank robbery (allegedly).
All in all the day was a great success. Special thanks to Junior Achievement for putting on the event and to all of the parent volunteers that helped make it happen.
