Happy 100th Birthday, Grandmother!! Evanell Courtney Vellan, August 14, 1921 - January 6, 2021. My grandmother passed away on January 6, 2021, just 7 months shy of her 100th birthday. She made it to her 100th year!! That’s quite the accomplishment! Forever independent, creative and hard working, I always admired her for these qualities. She wasn’t afraid to do things on her own, like fix the roof and install crown molding. One of my favorite memories was when she asked me to help her cut the crown molding and install it in her bedroom. We set-up the saw in the garage with the proper angle guide and cut each piece of molding and nailed it to the wall. We were done in no time!! She raised lovely roses at her house near Cowles Mountain, collected cranberry glass and beautiful artwork, and loved sewing (she made two stunning prom dresses for my sister) and crafting. I hope she and my granny are chatting on a couch somewhere, like they did during family get togethers. She is loved and missed by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren 💖

Sunday Liberty Station with birds. Almost 350 birds made from corn husks, wood and brightly colored paint by over 350 school children from the San Diego and Baja region. “Birds without Paradise” installation will be on display until February 8. The images taken through my iPhone and DSLR are incredible! After being able to use your telescope as the largest lens my DSLR has used to take photographs to date, I’m hooked.
