The NEWBORN* VOICE
Did you know every infant comes with instructions? Knowing a newborn's language is not only helpful but empowering. However, their loudest voice is not their cry, it's their muscle tone. Once a newborn is latched, don't watch the clock, check the hand position and tone(how tight their hand is). .
CLENCHED FIST+WHITE KNUCKLES= sit down and get comfortable, your in for a long feeding. Use breast compression to deliver more volume....And begin to see your baby's tone/hand "unfold". .
RELAXED FIST+ FINGERS FOLDED IN(bottom image)...continue to feed, keeping burst long by using breast compression, stimulating if pauses last more than 3 seconds. watch for fingers to poke up in groups of 1-2, palm will flatten, and tone will start to be relaxed, but tightens quickly if arm lifted.
