HOW TO GET STARTED IMPROVING YOUR LIFESTYLE:

Start with the basics.

1. Get 7-9 hours of sleep

How are you starting your day?

If the first thing you reach for in the morning is a cup of coffee, you’re setting yourself up for high cortisol levels, blood sugar spikes, increased anxiety, and poor sleep. 😬

The best advice I give my clients is to hold off on drinking coffee until after they have hydrated, and eaten a protein based meal.

Post Rehab and session 🙌🏻

My client was experiencing extremely high acute back pain with no idea how to help herself after not being able to sleep for days due to the pain.

5 tips to motivate you to workout:

1. Plan and schedule your workouts for the week—put it on your calendar, just like you would schedule a work meeting or dinner with a friend

I personally reach out to each of my clients every Sunday to help keep them consistent in scheduling their workouts for the week 👌🏻

2. Lay out your outfit— a cute workout set makes all 👏🏻 the 👏🏻difference 👏🏻

When you look good, you feel good. Boost your confidence by putting on a cute fit and then show up to your workout already feeling good. That confidence boost will translate into confidence in your workout. 💁🏻‍♀️

3. Phone a friend— a partner workout with a friend, shifts the experience from a “have to do” into a “want to do” experience.

You two will not only have fun, but you will build your bond by supporting and encouraging each other. Having a trainer also has this incredible impact. 🥹

4. Start simple. People always say start small- I say start simple. A simple walk, a body weight workout, or a 15 min programed workout can go a long way. 💯

If the thought of a hit workout, heavy weight training session, or 45min workout seems daunting or overwhelming to you. Pull back on your workout plan. Start by engaging in a routine that is sustainable to you. If you can’t plan to do it at least 3x per week, then it’s probably unsustainable and you will end up quitting it after a short time.

5. Do something that you enjoy. I always say that having a positive association with exercise is far more important than the actual activity that you do. Why?

Because MINDSET IS EVERYTHING! Your outlook on life strongly determines your success. If you go into a workout because you “have to” or a trainer is yelling at you to “do it!”, the likelihood that you will want to repeat the routine is very low. So, do something that you look forward to doing or hire a trainer that you get along with. Consistency is key. Consistency is more likely to occur when you enjoy the process. 👏🏻

Do you have pain and aren’t sure where it’s stemming from or how to rehab it properly?

I use therapy to identify exactly where your pain is stemming from. No guessing, just testing.

Let me simplify it for you: Your brain signals to your muscles for contraction. However, pain can sometimes stem from over activation or under activation of the neurological signals.

When creating our weekly dinners a side dish that often shows up is RICE.

Lets first acknowledge…There is nothing wrong with eating rice in our meals as your source of carbs in a balanced diet.

I will always encourage you to eat some form of carbs throughout the day for adequate energy intake, especially if you are engaging in a consistent workout routine.

The question that I receive often is…Which kind of rice is best for me? Let me break it down for you.

White rice is the easiest and most common choice because it is easiest to digest. This is because it is milled and processed more— leaving it as mostly a starch, lowest in nutrients, fiber, vitamins, and minerals. If you have any gut issues or sensitivities, this is the best choice for you. If you are looking to gain weight, this is also the best choice for you.

Brown rice is higher in vitamins, fiber, and minerals than white rice, which helps to control the spike in blood sugar levels. The higher fiber content will require more energy for breakdown during digestion, but it is still a good choice if your digestion is not that strong.

Black rice is very high in antioxidants. It contains protein, fiber, and iron. Red rice is also very high in antioxidants and gets its name from its high iron and zinc content. Both options are great for a post workout refuel and taste amazing with a little sea salt and black pepper added into it.

Wild rice is the best option for health. Wild rice is technically a seed, and not a grain. It is less processed and has the most nutrient benefits of all of the rice options.

When you’re at a point in your life where you have had set backs, lost your confidence, or struggled with making positive changes, the last thing you need is a coach that doesn’t recognize the person behind the body.

Please don’t work with trainers that yell at you during a workout, shame you for skipping a leg day, or berate you for over eating.

A good trainer knows that this is the time that you BUILD SOMEONE UP, emotionally. Not put them down, physically.

A good trainer will see you for who you are beyond how you look or how much you do in the gym.

A good trainer will encourage your potential, support your needs, listen and understand, problem solve, and have care and concern for you as a person and what you are going through.

Did you know that working out isn’t always the answer to your low energy? 😬

If you are constantly feeling lower energy and struggling with not hitting your weight loss goals, pushing yourself to workout isn’t going to help in the way that you think it would.

I always remind my clients that exercise is a stress to the body.

Your lower energy is showing you that you’re body has very little to give. You have to listen to you and work with it, not against it.

Forcing your body to get up extra early or push through an intense workout can actually cause you to be more stressed, make it harder to recover, and cause more weight gain. 😳

At the beginning of every personal training session, I check in with how you are feeling, so that we can adjust your workouts accordingly.

Sometimes a lower intensity exercise will provide you with better results than a high intensity one. This is very important to understand.

To take it to a deeper level of understanding your body, your chronic low energy could be a sign that your body is stuck in the fight-or-flight state and can’t recover properly. This high stress state can have very detrimental effects long term.
