F L Y. - Beautifully Wild and Aging

Why would I ? Well why wouldn’t I? Why the hell not!!!

Late night musings. I was looking at past images, my own self portraits as these ( my ode to James Baldwin) and others of women that I have taken.
I’ve had this idea and kept putting it in the back of my mind. Tonight I’ve decided to throw it out in the universe.

As I age I realize more and more how absolutely amazing I have become in a society that has absurdly decided that 40 plus can be disregarded. I never believed it until I experienced it, ageism is a thing.
I have seen so many women and men out there changing that narrative. Come on fly women and the Zaddies , with style and killin it. It’s a vibe. I’m all about it.

Musings of an Aging Wild Woman

I ran across this little guy in a craft store and was drawn to it and just had to have it. Why I asked myself did this little astronaut call my name. So random right?! Well I thought about it this morning as I look at this little ornament and it hit me.
There is a sense of wonderment.
Do you remember being a little kid and just dreaming , thinking about all the things you could do or be? The adventure that lies before you and all things that can be possible if we wished for them hard enough no matter what the circumstances or how cruel or impossible things may seem, in our sweet youthful minds.
At some point society , someone or something told us we couldn’t or changed #
# of that. Some of us listened and some of us didn’t and found their greatness big or small.
#
Just like this little mouse who is an astronaut not letting the world determine the destiny but its own, no matter the obstacles.
It’s never to late.

I will hold onto this trinket to remind me
that I was a dreamer and I still am and that so many things are possible. A reminder to have that sense of wonderment as an aging Wild Woman.

Summer came and went. It was so fast and furious and yet so slow at times. The month comes to a close. Fall is here and although pretty quiet on the photography portion of my life, I was able to photograph my daughter and her Beasties.

Closing out June

Whew this month was a whirlwind!
I had my TIGNON show ,which was shared with some of the most amazing people, even though my planning skills were off because of Fathers Day. Sheesh 🙄 why did I think it was the week after?

I meet and networked with some amazing women in business and others as well. I challenged myself to do hard things that I will carry with me in my personal and being a soloprenuer journey.

There were many gutt punches in the news and yet I see how strong we can be.

We celebrated those that are entering new adventures in their lives , education , squishy babies , and marriages.

And…. Danced. Danced with and by myself and with my Motu Ohana.

Most of all when I wanted to throw in the towel at times I look at all that I do and think, “ya big dummy” (good ol Fred Sanford voice ) look at what you create!!!!
Like Damn I did that!
I 👏🏽did👏🏽that👏🏽!

Look at this Queen Nylah y’all.

In my best Queen voice I say “I bid a fond fare well as I take my leave to you June” and “bring it” July.

Woke up and looked at my dads hat and put it on hoping he would tell me something good.

Whether it was his voice , or mine it said…
You are here, be thankful, walk in gratitude, experience life all the ups and downs, step out of that comfort zone once again and do hard things in life and your passion, you are more than enough, now go do something find inspiration and create !!!

No words. Keep your damn laws off my body! This is not a post up for debate

You know when you have one of those , “ …if I would have known then what I know now moments”?
I had that today.

I was looking through some old photos for a dear friend and saw a few of me. This particular image that I look so damn young was when I was around 27. I already had three children and no longer married. I was so hard on myself. I didn’t see the beauty I possessed and not just in the physical sense. I was told I wasn’t enough by so many, my physical view and reflection in the mirror was saying you aren’t beautiful like “xyz”. My self conceived ideas of a mom of three kids by myself was skewed. What others thought were Beauty by society standards was not me I thought. I beat myself up for years.
After all those years sometimes I catch myself
with that talk.

It wasn’t until I was 50 on my photographic journey that much of those ideas started really shifting. I decided at that time since I was really empowering other women that it was my turn to feel the same way. Gerson Lopes photographed me and I saw a glimpse of something beautiful. Well it’s been a ongoing running freight train since and my self portraits are really me and someone who as she is aging can say “ girrlll you are beautiful “ with all of it.

It pains me to say that I wish I would have known this when I was younger and stood in my power more. Because babyyyy ! Talking to my younger self , ghia you were so damn fire , strong and amazing and look at you now , own that ish.!

We all have our own journey of life lessons in this plane.

If this might just ring true to you , young or aging gracefully- don’t play yourself small because of preconceived notions or someone that is telling you that you are not enough, because you are. In all of your gloriousness or glorious mess.
We are all a work in progress and perfect is overrated. I am imperfectly perfect.

My art and photography has changed my life and along the way I have had the most amazing clients and people that I can share with them all the amazingness I see in them. That’s a lot of amazing stuff 😆
