Videos by YachtAid Global in San Diego. "Changing the World Without Changing Course"

YachtAid Global has been supporting the people of Fiji through Operation Viti providing disaster relief, rebuilding homes, and installing and updating infrastructures to increase the social well-being and resilience of Fijian communities.

As mariners, travellers and general life enthusiasts the sense of adventure, exploration, and appreciation for the beauty of these waterways, coastal communities and their people also comes with the responsibility of the yachting community to support those who share with us their land, sea and spirit.

Recently, a participating yacht crew captured the build of one of many homes being built and retrofitted in the area as part of our Build-Back Better initiative. The challenges of these remote location community development projects can be extensive, and although the support of our donors along with the strategic planning and execution from YAG and dedicated coalition partners is driving the growth of these initiatives, it is seeing the impact of the resourceful and hard-working yacht crews that helps make what we do at YachtAid Global so rewarding.

The tiger shark, also known as Galeocerdo Cuvier, is a species of requiem shark that can grow up to 16’ in length and weigh as much as 1400 pounds. As an endangered species, and the only remaining shark of the 12 within the genus Galeocerdo, YachtAid Global and our partners are studying the sharks in order to better protect these amazing animals that play such a key role in our marine ecosystem. The significant challenge of these studies is that the sharks migrate throughout some of the most remote areas of our planet which subsequently makes it incumbent for YachtAid Global to rely on our donors to make a difference. Although the transmitters that are surgically inserted in the sharks have a battery life of 10 years, the strategically placed receivers that collect the data from these transmitters need to be replaced annually. Supporting yachts and crew of “Operation Swimway” travel to these magnificent remote areas of the globe to participate in these studies and make an enormous difference in YachtAid Global’s conservation initiatives and the delicate balance of our planet's ecosystems. A Caribbean Christmas Story This is a story about the power of leadership, empathy, action, and momentum. What started as a social exchange that included a desire to assist a community in need ultimately led to a rapid plan of action that inspired a diverse and committed group of characters to provide holiday gifts for the children of Dominica. It began when Tim Forderer, General Manager for YachtAid Global, received a phone call on 12/18 as he was about to board a plane home after visiting the disaster-torn area of Dominica. Caroline Blatter, Director of Superyacht Services Guide, reached out to Tim because she felt compelled to do something special this holiday season for the kids of Dominica who have been so physically and emotionally ravaged by Hurricane Maria. To Caroline, it seemed like an impossible task with only a week before Christmas. Tim replied, “Leave it to me.” Tim’s next call was to Denise Charles, a member of Parliament in Dominica. He asked her if there was still time to put something together to give Christmas gifts to the children. Denise had been praying for something like this. “This year we weren’t able to have our normal fundraiser for Christmas. So this news blessed my heart deeply,” said Denise. In a matter of minutes, Tim reached out to Commander Mark Hattabaugh, Sr Pastor of The Pentecostals of Cooper City, a man he knew from experience would embrace this challenge. After Tim outlined the opportunity -- which required fundraising, shopping, cataloging, wrapping and transporting gifts from Ft. Lauderdale to Dominica in less than a week -- Commander Hattabaugh replied “Absolutely!” without hesitation. Commander Hattabaugh agreed to take in the donations and galvanize his youth group to shop and wrap the presents. However, the next big challenge was funding. “The power of social media tools is mind-boggling when it comes to quick calls to action, “ said Tim. “Within hours from flying from Ft. Dragonfly - Vanuatu YachtAid Global Disaster Relief
The amazing crew of MY Dragonfly demonstrating the unique contribution that Yachts and Yacht Crews are making as global natural disaster first responders. This is YachtAid Global at its finest.... News from Captain Mike: "Motor Yacht Dragonfly was dispatched to Vanuatu to provide disaster relief after Cyclone Pam struck the remote islands on March 14th 2015. The video is intended to show the work that the vessel and her crew performed and highlight the possible use of resources onboard yachts in such disaster zones. Whilst onboard in the week leading up to the 14th March, the crew and I were watching a storm develop in the South Pacific with trepidation. Having spent the past few years cruising these beautiful areas we have made many friends and developed relationships with the local communities in these island groups. Unfortunately, our fears were realized when the storm became a Cat 5 Cyclone and on the 14th March, it ran straight over the top of the remote island chain of Vanuatu, 1,000 Miles East of Australia. It was a horrible feeling knowing that the people of Vanuatu were suffering and we felt compelled to assist in whatever way we could. After a discussion, the Owners fully supported the decision to head south and assist those same people that had been so hospitable to us in recent years’ - Captain Mike Gregory - Dragonfly The team that we have on Dragonfly are exceptional, we have over recent years developed our medical training program and all crew are highly trained with 5 EMT’s & a Dr onboard we were well positioned to act as first responders on the many islands that we visited” Dragonfly was tasked with the remote islands North of Efate (The Capital of Port Vila) in the Shefa Province and on arrival we were shocked by the level of damage. Our tasking included Medical Response, Delivery of Food and Water, Delivery and construction of Shelter and providing Intel back to the Disaster Management team on the ground in Port Vila. We worked closely with Sam &
