SUMMER WIND // Resident Choreographer Geoff Gonzalez discusses his all-new ballet “Summer Wind” set to music from the Frank Sinatra songbook.
What attracted you to Frank Sinatra’s music as the soundtrack for this ballet?
“I have been a Frank Sinatra fan since I was young. His vocal range and phrasing are second to none, but the swing and jazz influences in his music really caught my ear. When I started as a choreographer, I created dance to his music just for fun.
“Now I am setting a full-length ballet to his incredible music. Those jazzy rhythms pair so well with sharp movements and exciting dance steps. The dancers love the different textures of dancing set to the speed and dynamics of Sinatra’s music.”
