This is an air quality crisis for South Bay communities. The health impacts of this air pollution are currently unknown, but the quality of life impacts are there for all to see. It is hard for me to think of a more crippling environmental impact to a community than a noxious odor that makes normal life impossible. The good news is that we have identified solutions, but the bad news is that the Federal Government has failed to pay for them. #VivianMoreno #TijuanaRiverValley

We broke ground on the new Riviera Del Sol Neighborhood Park in Otay Mesa! #D8GreenSpace Riviera Del Sol Park will include amenities such as picnic areas, basketball court, children's play area, fitness equipment, drinking fountain & restrooms, landscaping, lighting and ADA compliant pathways. The total project cost is $9,570,838 for planning, land acquisition, design, construction, and inspection. As we celebrate this significant milestone, I want to thank the community for the tremendous support for this project. When residents moved into this neighborhood 20 years ago, they were promised a park in the vacant lot near their homes. Unfortunately decades passed without a park. It is my responsibility as your Councilmember to fight for these projects, and I am proud to have pushed for funding to make this park a reality. Other vacant lots are still awaiting action, and I vow to continue to urge federal, state and other local officials to fund them. Thank you Mayor Todd Gloria, Parks and Recreation Department Director Andy Field and to all of the staff involved in making this project come to fruition. I am excited to return to Riviera Del Sol's Ribbon Cutting event in Spring of 2023!

2021 was a fruitful year for District 8, and we have much to look forward to in 2022. Thank you to everyone who has followed and supported us, we wish you all safe and happy holiday season.

#FlashbackFriday It's been three years since I took my oath of office to serve the residents of District 8. I have loved every minute of it, and I thank my family, friends and community for your continued support.

LIVE NOW: Barrio Logan Plan Update discussion at City Council.
Barrio Logan Community Plan Update

Barrio Logan Community Plan Update
The long awaited Barrio Logan Community Plan Update will be heard at Council at 2PM TODAY, and I urge members of the public to call in to voice their support during the meeting. You can join the virtual meeting at https://sandiego.zoomgov.com/j/1608377897 or by calling 669-254 5252. When prompted, input Webinar ID: 160 837 7897# When the Clerk introduces the item, raise your hand by either tapping the "Raise your Hand" button on your computer, tablet, or Smartphone, or by dialing *9 on your phone. You will be taken in the order in which you raise your hand. Before the Council today is a plan that protects our residents from exposure to pollution, plans for future increases in density, new parks and transportation infrastructure. It includes a 65-acre transition zone to serve as a buffer between residential and heavy industrial uses. It strengthens the Barrio Logan truck route by preventing large trucks from using neighborhood streets. The plan promotes better mobility, making walking and biking viable transportation options within Barrio Logan with connections to jobs and services outside the community. It promotes community gardens for access to healthy foods. It requires onsite affordable housing, with a 15% inclusionary housing requirement for any residential and mixed-use developments of 10 or more dwelling units. To guard against displacement of local residents, the proposed update has strengthened the protections for renters in Barrio Logan, so that when affordable units are built, local renters have the first opportunity to live in those units. I want to thank all of our Planning Group members to get this plan right. In particular, the Barrio Logan Planning Group Chair, Mark Steele, deserves a major ‘thank you’ for his continuous efforts over the last few years to ensure the Barrio Logan Community Planning Group and the residents were fully engaged with all stakeholders and city staff.
